Timing Belt/Water Pump Service

...Just got mine done at the dealer. The whole thing cost me $650CDN (I got them to take 10% off). Just an FYI for anyone with that service coming up...

Does your car drive any different after this is done? Do you feel any difference?

I really couldn't tell you for a few reasons:

1) I had other work done at the same time

2) I had a little 1.7EL as a loaner car while they did the work, and when I got the TL back, I was like... "Whoa!".

It _seems_ better, but as I said - probably not the timing belt... The thing about a timing belt change is - it feels better knowing it's not going to snap and destroy my engine!

that's about $600CDN, so it sounds about right... AFAIK, you could probably get it done cheaper somewhere else, but I do all of my maint. through the dealer...

Anyone done this themselves? I plan to tackle this soon and wonder if there are any tips, or something I may not be aware of?...

I would have the dealer do it, its a pain in the rear. Why didn't you guys change out the water pump while you were at it?

Yeah I have to get mine done in the next couple of weeks. Going to cost me $700 through a friend who is a mechanic and his dad owns the shop.

I wouldnt try this at home unless you are ASE certified. There is a reason they say replace the water pump at the same time as the timing belt. Cause it is a pain in ass to get too. After all that $450-$700 is almost all labor, not for the water pump and belt

Very important, it should be done by 105,000 miles.

I think they built in some extra time, thats why you are at 105k, but if the belt goes, it basically messes up your engine and your in for big bucks to fix that. I guess if the belt breaks, the valves will hit the pistons and screw things up (unless you have a non-interference engine - which I do not believe we have).

I've got a 96 3.2premium with 58K on it. The dealer and my acura specialist mechanic say to do the timing belt at 60K or 6 years. DO I need to do it right away? My 92 intergra was done at mid 80K, as suggested. DOes the TL need to be done that much sooner?
