Stupid question - Transmission
Ok, I was out at my car looking for the transmission. Can anyone help a newbie out?
I've only driven manual transmissions before I got this car and I have only a vague idea about autos. It looks like it's below my engine block...but I'm not sure. I need to find it's dipstick so that I can check the fluid and get it drained and replaced (not flushed) if necessary.

You can drain and replace the tranny fluid yourself. There is a drain plug on the bottom of the pad. But keep in mind, if you just drain it from the pan, you only get about 1/3 of all the fluid. The rest of the fluid is in the torque converter. Most shops have a machine that sucks ALL of the fluid out and replaces it with fresh fluid. Just make sure they use Honda ATF or something compatible. This should be done every 30,000 miles or so.
I just got done a transmission drain yesterday. I was told by the honda dealership that i would only need 2 1/2 litres of fluid to replace the drained fluid. They were wrong! I measured 4 litres that came out. I only had 3 on hand so i need to make another trip to get some more.
How much fluid does the transmission take if it was completey flushed?
