"stock" cold air intake?

Hey guys,

I had to remove my bumper for a different mod and while it was off, I noticed a large empty bin going to the intake box, which sits in the wheel well on the passenger side. Well, I traced the air flow and it sucks air from inside the engine, down through a tube, into this big empty bin, then back up into the air intake box where the air filter is. So, it seems as though you can make your own "cold air intake" because when you remove the big bin, which sets in the wheel well, there is just a short pipe that goes directly into the intake box. So, cold air intake, right? So I did it and my car is more throaty but I'm not sure if I notice any real difference in horsepower. I also haven't logged enough fill ups because it's summer and I've been driving my bike everywhere.

As anyone else done this? What do you guys think?

I tore my resonator out a long time ago, along with that U bend piping. Then i shoved a 3in. dryer hose at the end of the air box and directed it towards the front grill of the car. Its a slightly deeper tone, but I didn't notice much of a difference.

^ Haha!

All those various tubes and hoses that lead to nowhere are all for canceling out sound.

~Cheers~

Resonator, eh? Have you noticed any increased MPG since it's removal? I'm assuming that you've removed yours as well...?

Basically your car is a bit louder under wide open throttle acceleration. My MPG didnt improve much if any. Its mostly a noise issue.
