Steering zipping sound?

I just noticed this morning that when I make sharp turns I hear a zipping sound coming from the steering wheel. Kinda like when you zip up your jacket but softer. I'm not sure how long this has been happening as I am kinda out of it sometimes. But I really noticed it this morning. Also noticed it on my drive home, so it may have started today. The weather has been very cold in the morning and car has been covered in ice for the past couple of days.

Anyone know what this is?

Is it the wheel itself? When it is really cold out, when I spin the wheel I get a sound almost like ball bearings moving across a sheet of metal, with a bit of a click to it. Same thing you are talking about?

well, I'm not sure how ball bearings moving across sheet metal sounds like, but I know for sure it's a single sound, no click to it. Just a ziiiiiiiiiiip.

It sounds like it's coming from the steering wheel, but I could be wrong. It is kinda faint.

Could easily be a bad description on my part, I haven't really had my car for the last month, so I havent heard it in at least that long.

I really think I know the sound you are talking about though, I can imagine it being a ziiping sort of noise.

I get the exact same zipping noise when i steer the wheel......it's defintely something inside the steering wheel iteself. I'm not too worried though, because no problems performance-wise come of that. just kinda annoying to listen to.

I have a similar sound that just started too. I believe it is just because of the cold weather. I think it will go away once it gets warmer outside.

That could be it. I don't remember hearing it last year when it was cold like this. Unsane, you got your car back right? Can you verify that you are hearing something similar?

Yeah, I am, definately more in the cold, probably below 40ish then if it is warm.

I'll try and really listen to it and get back with what I hear.
