Speakers-Rear dash install.

changing out your 6x9's?? I heard not all 6x9's fit our cars. I mean all 6x9's fit but some of those aftermarket 6x9 have these built in tweeters that protrude too far upwards preventing the mesh to be put back on.

I was thinking about changing the rear speakers of my TL too. But about the mesh cover; if it is taken off, and left off, is the carpeting around the speaker flush with the speaker? Or is there a gap.
Thanks
Thanks

I got the Polk db650 in the doors(perfect). And the db690 in the rear dash(near perfect). There is a small gap where the mesh does not touch the dash. It's very even on both sides. The center tweeters stick up about 1/16'' too far. No big deal. Love the sound. Looks stock.
Final verdict from the "Picky Prick" is... Polk db's recomended for the '97TL.

Ummmm, well I have a problem in my TL.
I see the " 3 screws" you're talking about, but you're looking at the point end of them, not the Phillips head end. So back to the original question, how do you get your back windshield deck off, so you can access the speakers?
I know it should be simple, as with any other car, but I have looked at it many times, and I'm still left scratching my head. I 've actually been mad enough to just rip it out, but I maintain my composure.
Regardless, further directions, or pictures would be greatly appreciated.
I can post pics later, if anyone is confused.
I just want some new speakers in my rear dash!!!!!
I have the speakers just dont' know how to put them in.

Climb up in the trunk and stick a philips in those holes, Loosen the screws and then you can remove the grille.
Hope this helps.
Lets us know how it goes.

I just replaced my stock rear speakers with the Polk dB690s. I now have Polk dB650s in the doors & 690s in the back. What a difference in sound. Also, the polks are much more "efficient" than the stock speakers. Thanks to everyone who posted DIYs here; made it really easy to find the screws, remove & reinstall, etc.

found em, but the holes arent big enough.....damn it...soo I think I know how to make the speakers fit but I directly soldered on soo now I have to wait for a sunny day to take off the wire and re-do it...I wont be able to get the mesh back on but thats okay I think I like it better without the mesh...show off those expensive speakers haha.

Infinity's, they were a good deal, I'm happy with the way they sound, annd I dont plan on re-doing the rear shelf I like the way they look, they are a nice silver coloure and i think they pop nice showing in the back, but you never know. But my fit adapter that I have to add to mount them properly, will hide the gap between the carpet and the bare metal so itll look clean
