everything I've read on this forum said its completely pointless to replace them... One guy who did said he got out of the car with his ears ringing and his head hurting every time... they're pretty close to your ears, not a place where you want/need a lot of sound

my cousin has a 1st gen tl and he placed his bostons up there and it was killing him. so he took it out and drilled holes into that plastic piece down at the footing area...next to the door hinges.. and he said it sounded much better down there. somehow, he got 4 rockford power dvc's to fit in the trunk!! and 2 large ppi amps but this should be in the audio board
but yeah, those are tweeters up there. for some reason, those dont work no more after you install an aftermarket head unit.

I you wanna use aftermarket tweeters in the dome lights, just make sure you wire them so that you have a separate volume control or L-pads for them. Then you can tweak the volume.
If noone else has explained the reason for their existence, it's to get both front occupants one step closer to a real stereo image. Hard to hear the right channel high frequencies when the passenger's leg is blocking it out...
I'm just glad Acura was the first (I've heard of) to address this in a factory sound system.

This is interesting. On The Legends, there's the two rear speakers and tweeters, two front speakers and tweeters. Then, on the dome lights, there a place for two mini-speakers. But ours are actually for the OEM cell phone. Everyone thinks they are speakers when they ask about them in the Legends. I guess Acura took that as a hint and put them in after the Legend years 96+
