Question Speaker Questions

Looking for new 6x9s in the back. Whats the stock depth? On crutchfield website, it says all the 6x9s dont fit.

If mods are needed, what kind of mods do i need to do. All you fellows who have done so, please help.

Thanx

Mike

Don't worry about the depth...I myself also went to crutchfield and they told me the same thing...but I bought some Polk Audio 6x9's anyway and they fit perfectly...it took me 5 minutes to install both speakers. Also, are u going to run the 6x9's through an amp or strait to the deck?

Why shouldn't they fit? You could see the bottom of the 6x9's from inside the trunk. You can get any 6x9's you want. Its not like they're in an enclosure.

Talking thanx fellows

Yeah, thats whati figured too, since you can see the speakers in the trunk. I was just curious why Crutchfild said nothing fits. I guess at crutchfield if the computer data says it doesnt fit, it doesnt fit, haha.

Hip: I am not going to amp the interior speakers. 20w RMS is enough for me as of now. Just gonna amp the 300rms woofer with the class-D alpine mono.

96TL: I see you are brooklyn. Sup neighbor. I am here in queens. We are a shop here. So if there is anything I can help you with, in terms of parts or anything, give me a shout. Also if your bimer is souped, we are looking for cars to join us for shows as well.

Thanks again guys,

Mike

okay actually what doesn't fit is the tweeter protrusion... i had this problem and i was on the phone with the tech guy and he made me measure the space inside the grill that goes over the speaker... your don't want to get too high a speaker protrusion or it will touch the grill on the inside.. that is the only thing that won't fit... when i measure it i saw that we had 3/4" of space... so check and make sure u have a speaker with a protrusion less than that.. i also went with the polk's GR69 3 way...

Thanks a lot guys!!!

I am gonna ahead and order some stuff. Try hookedontronics.com They are the cheapest I found so far.

As to the 6x9s. I might go with some kenwood 4 ways. If the top extrudes, I guess I will slap on some custom grills.

Thanks again

Mike

Good point Baller.

If the stock won't fit, I will make custom cover for them, color matched of course. And the rear window is tinted as well, can not see the speakers through the back.

About the stock covers, do I just pop dem off? Don't wanna snap any clips.

For the stock covers, there are 4 total screws u have to unscrew...I had to get in the trunk to unscrew them but nothing too hard to do...just pop in the new speakers and screw the covers back on and BAM! ur done homie...p'z

I would like to stay away from any custom job as much as I can, since I am a lazy bastard. It is hard to find out the exact extrusion of the tweeter dome for all the different speakers

Does anyone know of any 3way 6x9s besides the polk that will clear the stock height?

Thanx

I'm using the high end MB Quart 6x9's. I forgot the exact model number. They sound good but they're a little delicate.

96TL, I am planning to use the head unit to drive the interior speakers. It's a 27 RMS unit, as long it is sufficient to drive those.
=)

By "deilicate" I mean if you put too much bass they would distort easily. The highs sound nice though. It could've been my RF amp causing the ditortion. Rf amps aren't good for highs.

GTspecNYC, they would sound much better with an amp. Why don't you add one?

I had the highest end Pioneer Premier headunit in my TL and I loved it. I think it was the DEH-P920R? It sounded nice and had lots of features. My friend had an Alpine headunit in his Lexus. They make nice units also. Thats a hard choice. What are the specs and prices? How do they look?

I was thinking about either the Pioneer premier 850 MP or the Alpine CDA-9815. Pricing is in the same ball park. Hmmm....choices, choices, choices.

my sound setup : ///ALPINE type R 6x9 in back
type R components in front
2 extra tweeters in front
type R 12" sub
powered by Alpine V12
Pioneer premier DEH-P940MP deck

i went with the pioneer deck because it offers a lot more options then the high end Alpine deck .. i can control everything from my deck including any and all setting for my amp ,, and it allows for speaker timing..

it's gives me great sound, plan on adding a dvd player and screens in my 97 3.2 TL

for me, personally, i think id go with alpine decks or eclipse.. they're known for performance. btw the two, alpine design looks more nice. eclipse look so plain but they're made to perform
