Sparratic Air Conditioning?

Ever since getting my tranny rebuilt, have noticed something funny -

I drive the car for a while (pizza delivery), come back and park it.

10 minutes later, I get back in, crank it, put it in drive, drive away, and turn the AC on.

You know that noise the AC makes when it's first turned on? The hissing noise? It turns on, off, on, off, on, off....... So i eventually turn the AC off and turn it back on again and it works fine.

What do yall think is up? I appreciate anything yall can give me

climate control weirdness

I've also noticed some erratic behaviour with my automatic climate control, though not quite as bad as you describe. It has a range of 19°C to 31°C (well 18 to 32 but you know the max settings aren't really that temperature I'm sure). Mine is a '96 2.5TL and I noticed that when its a moderately warm day outside, like 25°C, and I JUST get in the car and turn the controls down to say, 26 (because it's warmer inside the car), the air conditioner BLASTS me. But then if I shut off the A/C, and get out of the car (shut off the engine) and then get back in, it doesn't blast me anymore, it just comes out gently like I assume it should. Also, if I turn it down to where it needs to use the A/C, and then back up and then back down to that point without waiting very long, the A/C won't kick back in unless I go to a MUCH lower temperature. I wonder if anyone else has these climate issues?

Ditto that climate weirdness.

I have that same experiences. This is the first year in the summer with my car and whenever i get in and turn the vehicle on, it'll blow very softly. Then when i turn corners; it blows FULL BLAST then will go back to regular blowing when i turn the wheel back. As well as full blast sparatically. I always thought it was something wrong with my blower motor.

Could be the blower motor or you need a coolant change.

Get your coolant flushed and refilled

Thats usually the #1 culprit.

I've also noticed odd A/C behavior. When I'm cruising down the highway with the A/C on i can hear the compressor go on for about 10 seconds then off for 10, on for 10 then off for 10. Is this normal? The air is blowing cold and always constant so no worries there. Possibly low on coolant or something?

Mine would only work half the time. I took it in twice and by the time they got it back to 100 percent I had replaced the A/C idler assembly (bearing was gone) and believe it or not the center pulley on the crankshaft belt pulley assembly had separated from the assembly and was not only slipping it was drifting side to side. It almost shredded the P/S belt.....

Now everything works perfectly.... after spending $750 CDN....

If anything take it in to a reputable mechanic and see what the problem is.

Are you talking about engine coolant or A/C refrigerant ?

The AC freon needs to be recharged to max capacity- its normal to happen

Its important to use the AC year round to keep the seals in good shape
About the hottest days of the year you notice the compressor cycling way too much
Pressure reads 60 on the low side- should be 25-40, and adding freon makes the number go down!
Check label near AC for oil type- buy the right type oil with freon in same can
DISCLAIMER
Only qualified persons should be doing this
