simple amp/sub box ideas?
I wasn't sure where to post this so here it is. Im trying to come up with a custom sub box design for my 96 TL. I dont want to lose much trunk space, and I want the amp to be enclosed so no wires or connector ends are showing.
What I am working with is a 10" Image Dynamics sub (needing about .64 cubic ft air space) and a Elemental Designs amp. (the face of the amp measures about 11.5 x 8.5)
when I had it in my BMW I just made a false wall and the amp/sub faces were flush. However theres nowhere to do that in the TL without losing too much trunk. I use the trunk a lot so I dont want to do a false floor. I sat for over an hour last night trying to come up with simple clean "built for the car" type ideas.
if you have any suggestions or pictures of others set ups please post. Thanks!!

looks like you have great toys there. You could do a false wall too but our trunks aren't that big. What i did was i sacrificed the appearance for sound so i just have a box sitting in the trunk.
you could do the same thing but usually sealed enclosures are smaller than ported so you can do a sealed box. you could also bolt your amp onto the box but its going to look pretty ghetto but if trunk space is that important to you...

i currently have a bandpass box with the amp screwed onto the side of the box.. i hate it because it is so big and am thinking about moving to a sealed box but then i will need a bigger amp to push the power... its a sacrafice until i get enough time to just fiberglass everything in cleanly...

I have a similar 10" sub setup and I installed it by basically attaching the amplifier to the back side of the sub box and then mounted the sub so it faces the trunk. I can open the trap door at the middle of the back seat and make adjustments to the amp if needed. Be sure to use a speaker grille on the sub to protect it from stuff in the trunk. I used a sub box that had the correct cubic area for the amp. The box was a made for a pick-up truck cab and it fit just fine.
