Should I replace CV Boots??

I was told by the dealer that my inner and outer CV boots were leaking on one side of the car, and one boot was leaking on the other side. Total to replace the three CV boots is $2,100 at the dealer. I am not going to get a quote from an independent aftermarket garage unless it is worthwhile.

Should I have them replaced? I have a 96 3.2TL with 162,000 miles on it. The car is running well with the exception of an occasional starting problem (every month or two). I want to keep the car at least a couple more years.

Thanks for the feedback, I do appreciate it.

Take care of them. Don't just change the boots, I'd change the axles altogether. It'd probably end up being cheaper, too.

~Cheers~

I would change them out. You don't want the axles to fail while on a highway. $2,100 seems a little too much. I'd buy new axles and change them out. Should be way cheaper. If I remembered correctly, it cost me $300 to replace them with lifetime warranty from a local mechanic.

$2100. what a joke. hit up your local auto parts store and get two new axles for under $100 each and look for an independent shop to do it for you.

Thanks for the info guys. I just called an independent garage. he said it would be about $400 to replace both front axle assemblies. I will go ahead and do it at that price.

Thanks again for the info, I appreciate it.

When a gas station increase price per gallon because there is a shortage of supply and a very high demand, the state and FBI all go after them for price gouging.
However, when a dealer or a business quotes or charges outrageous price, why none of the law enforcement out there writing tickets.

I never understand this.
