security system
i just bought 96 acura tl, but i only got one remote for the alarm system in it, and it doesnt even work. The remote is fine cuz the light lit up when i pushed a button but no reaction from the car. The alarm works in the car cause i armed it with the key and set it off..any ideas what i can do about the remote?

Is the alarm the stock one? What are the details of your car? Trim, etc. A simple reprogramming could be in order.
~Cheers~
P.S. Just re-read the post and you armed it with your key so it is the stock one.

There was a thread on this but I'll just tell you from memory.
With the door open, turn the ignition switch to "On" and then back to "Off" 5 times, while holding down the door lock switch down. Don't start the car, just get it to "On."
After that, the door locks should cycle (lock, then unlock). Within 10 seconds, hit the lock button on your remote, and wait for the locks to cycle once more. After that, all previous remotes are erased from memory and only your one can open the car.
~Cheers~
P.S. Anyone feel free to correct me if I skipped a step or something.

The "stock" Acura remote made by Kenwood
If your remote has the two buttons on the front, one for Arm/disarm and other for panic with the back side having the Acura logo at the top and an 8 digit code at the bottom, then you have the Kenwood version.
The only way to obtain a remote for that system is to visit your local Acura dealer and bring the remote. The dealer will order the remote from Kenwood for $85 (maybe an extra $15 handling and service fee), and they will "program/pair" the remote to the car.
Kenwood will not ship the remote directly to the consumer, and car alarm shops who might even specialize in replacement remotes will not be able to get the remote or program the original.
I have both of the original remotes and neither work, and I have tried the programming steps for the system that I found on numerous alarm hack sites, but to no avail. The Remotes Unlimited alarm shop in Stafford, TX attempted the same programming steps that I found on the web without any luck.
I wonder what will make this next replacement remote for the "factory" alarm system stop working as the first two original remotes did...?
Any guesses on why the original remotes stopped functioning?
I bought the car from a car salesman friend of mine who bought it from the original owner and let the car sit for a few months.
Would the battery going dead require the alarm remote to be "reprogrammed/paired" again?
Thanks
