Re: Replating Acura badges and Emblems...

I was looking to purchasing a 96TL w/ 108k miles...

it is black w/ beige interior...

and i noticed that the gold emblems have faded... is there a way i can get them restored/replated...

Has this been done... and would it be expensive...?

There are several places that will redo the gold if that's what you want. I had my Mazda MX-6 done several years ago and the cost was not that bad. No more than $100.

You can BUY the gold emblems from various online Acura parts sources for under $100

Eeek...gold emblems...not my taste. Why not just take them off and go debadged (except for the "A")? Only the "A" on the back has holes..the rest are stick-on.

Oh crap, forgot that the trim on the front is gold too...I would just see if anyone has any chrome or gold one's lying around to sell..

One of my other questions is about the leather upholstery... everything looks good... except for the drivers side seat... the seat has about a quarter inch rip that is starting... and a bit more wear and tear than the driver side... and some cracking... but not bogusly...

Is there a repair for this type of thing or is it a matter of reupholstering all or part (only damaged area)... How much could this run???

if only it was that simple, my car had the gold trim, debadged the rear emblems and it left scratches in the paint. Finally found a grill for sale on ebay with the chrome trim, it sold for 130+ shipping

It all depends on how you remove them! If you use a screwdriver, yes you will get scratches. BEST way is to use fishing line to remove the emblem and then some form of gunk remover to get the rest od the tape and glue off. This should leave less of a mark.

I did use fishing line, I'm guessing someone has messed with them before like it was loose and they pushed on them. I've debadges plenty of cars, but the tl was just ruined when I pulled the badges off.

hmmm.wait until you see the repair bills for this car. My insurance was like 6 grand a year( I paid under 8 grand for this car ) But keep in mind at the time I was 16, had full coverage with a 100 dollar comprehensive deductible and a 200 dollar collision deductible. But the insurance paid for my 900 dollars bumper cover replacement. oh and I'm with 21st century, since AAA won't accept me because I didn't have my license long enough at the time.

You'd be better off with 500 collision and 500 comprehensive. The money you save could EASILY cover small accidents, dings and such.

I don't even have the TL anymore because I had the TL and a 93 accord coupe. So it wasn't sensible for me to keep the TL plus the accord was modified to my driving preference. It may be a rough ride but it handles so well
