I just bought a 96' 2.5 tl and it says premium unleade fuel only .. i wanna know if i can use the regular and the medium type..

91 octane or higher is required in our cars-
run it on 87 and it will run bad- get bad mileage and have other problems

The way I look at it is to just buy the premium. If you calculate a full tank of premium vs. a full tank of regular you will see the difference should be around $3 and it will be even less for plus vs premium.

We used to put the middle(87) in our g35 coupe and I'm not quite sure if it was just my imagination but it didnt seem to run as smooth and it seemed to be making extra noises that it didnt usually make. The G requires premium as well.

Also the very first time I got my 06 TL filled up was at about 1/2 tank and my dad thought I told him to put the middle gas and well it seemed to lag a little, but most likely that was really just my imagination that time.

ehh that noise it seemed to make was preignition or detonation from the octane being too low and causing it to ping.

It ruins the bearings, pistons, and entire motor.. 4 bucks a gallon isnt that bad. I used to run only 10 dollar a gallon c16 in my civic. Dude has a point, just get premium and no snickers bar and bottle of water. Or get 87 and a snack and i can walk you through rebuilding your motor in time..

i guess i never really understood why people want to use lower grade fuel to save money. gas here is $3.41 for regular and $3.54 for premium. so on our little 14 gallon tank that's not even $2 more! i just dont get it.

Alright, this thread is getting out of hand here. I vote for a , possibly an eventual since this is going nowhere. if you have a sign that you use to identify yourself? I about you having a TL since We don't need to be shown an old member of the board's vehicle, and we don't need you to try to pass that off as yours. You obviously know how to use the interweb to upload photos, so what's stopping you from going outside, snapping a photo, crop it, upload it, and setting it as your avatar? You need to and take that photo. An old member on here has an avatar that isn't his car, but it's a rather famous Inspire. There's a difference.

Since this thread is totally fucking off topic and pointless.. Theres a picture of a hightop, a lawn mower, and a steak.


Premium fuel only is because the compression is too high to run low octane.. It will cause pinging and tip in detonation which ruins internal parts of the motor. Unless the timing is retarded it will damage the motor running low octane on the factory ignition timing.
