Possibly changing my sound system, help needed

First off I have a '96 2.5TL.

Okay, I did a serch but I couldn't come up with very comprehensive information. Keep in mind that I've remedied the CD-PE0 problem, so it's not because of that. I've got 2 dead speakers, and I really want mp3 capability, so I'm wondering what I should do. Here's my little list of questions:

1. What brand of speakers are the best? I'm looking for a good value, probably spending a couple hundred on speakers or so. I may not change out the Door speakers due to installation costs, but everything else probably.

2. I found out about speaker specs, please tell me if I have the right information:
Dash tweets - 1.5" (one of these is blown)

Roof Midranges - 2" (one of these is blown) run at 2 ohms and connect to a blue wiring harness.

Door speakers - 5.25"

Rear speakers - 6x9 (possible damage but can't tell really)

What's the resistance and RMS power of each of these? And would an aftermarket HU be able to handle more without an amp or new wires?

3. Is there ANY possible way to make the midranges on the roof work with an aftermarket HU? Crossovers, anything? Any aftermarket units that are built for 8 speakers? If not I might as well stick with the stock unit.

4. Is there anything I could buy if I changed out to an aftermarket unit that would slide in the space that would become a compartment to prevent things from moving around in there?

1. Lots of good brands, might want to ask in Audio section. I personally have Nakamichis but I got them at a bargain price.

2. Those specs are correct for the speakers I dont know the RMS rating though.

3. I've been told a crossover would do it, never really looked into it. I personally went BACK to my stock headunit and just burn more CD's (previously had MP3 player)

4. Yes, a kit made by Metra which costs about 10 or 15 US dollars gives you a little "shelf" below the headunit. It should be available at any decent store, online or otherwise.

Thanks for the help. I'm buying an 06 TL next year, but I think I want to keep this one until it's dead no matter what, so I want to do things correctly. Maybe I should just live with the stock headunit since i got it to work so well (properly burned cd's + head cleaner). I've heard good things about Nakamichi speakers, and if I'm not getting a headunit I might as well spend the money on superior speakers. And of course I absolutely refuse to turn my car into a 6 speaker car.

Does taking the door speakers off require disassembling the door? If it does, I might as well fix the slow windows too somehow.

In my case, the door speakers needed some disassembly of the doors. And that was when I figured I'd fix the slow passenger window.

A good speaker for ~$199 is Infinity perfect 6.1. Speakers for ~$300 high quality is MB Quart, or Focal. I got Focal cost about $320 a pair component. If you wanna find out more about it click here www.focalamerica.com.

I just changed my 2 rear deck speakers. I might not have to change much more. I replaced the stock 15W speakers with 100W (rms) JBL speakers. The sound is SOOOO clear now! No more of that "muddy" bass sound! I spent $150 on the pair. Regular price was $199.99. Now I just have to go to Acura to get new midranges to replace my blown ones on the roof, because NOBODY carries 2 inch speakers!! ARGH!
I went all over the city yesterday looking for some. No stores had any.

Skip the 2" speaker. It's a waste of money and you'll ruin soundstaging/imaging from a sound quality standpoint.

If I were in your position, I would have gotten better front speakers as you sit in front. But if you're happy with the rears, then no problem
