painted calipers

whew what a messy job. just finished painting my front two calipers. they look alright. i painted it blue and it goes well with the blue color scheme of my car. i used hi temp engine paint, the 1200 degree one. so i hope that'll last for a little while.

Yeah I used the same paint on mine. They'll start to chip in a few months. Stay away from Armor-All wheel cleaner. Its a little bit too strong. Once I started using it the paint started chipping.

nope i got this product from a karparts type place... its called "break clean"( or other variations) there were two types flamable and non flamable flamable is obviously more potent got that sprayed break down good (used 2 cans for all 4calipers)and let is sit and drip dry only took a couple of minutes ( i used this time to clean the inside of my rim) and then sprayed whole caliper once let dry repeated process a couple of times and there they were.... some taped up what they didnt want to spray but i just left it and then went around my neighborhood and went to like 20 and came slowly to a stop and that got all of the excess

Of course I am going to ask WHY are we painting calipers without SOME SORT of brake upgrade. That is why Porsche paints the calipers, because they are HIGH PERFORMANCE brakes.....

But if you wanna be RICEY, do it right..Go to a Home Depot or something similar, buy some High-gloss LACQUER and BRUSH it on the Calipers. That spray paint crap is CRAP.

Lacquer is very thick so it will not crack or peel. Do 2 coats and do it in warm weather (or use a hair dryer). This should give you the EXACT look you want.......

I'm serious, try it, it works and looks PROFFESIONAL!

actually there is kit for the laquer and that is 40 and the only differende between that kit and the" RICEY" spray paint is that it is glossy. which im my opinion is ricey
i did mine too but mine are black cause i dont want them to stand out ... ive had them all summer , havent had any problems with them cracking the only reason i did them was becasue after a while the calipers and rotors get rusted

and i think we came to the conclusion that the reason that 96TL's cracked was because of the fact that he used armorall to clean his rims and tires

Hey, my bad but red calipers on a car with NO BRAKE upgrade screams "poser". Blue, well I guess if it matches the car, to each his own. I think the 1st gen looks pretty classy, not sure why you would do that.

But my suggestion is to help. I sugest lacquer in a paint can.

hehe it's my car and i can do whatever i want to it!!!!! hehehe. but yeah i agree with you how it is kinda ricey if we don't really have any brake upgrades. hehe maybe it's time for me to get some cross drilled rotors. would that justify the painting of my calipers? :p

I painted mine because of the rust. Once I got wheels you could see it alot and it looked horrible. I will NEVER want my car to look like a ricers. I hate that look. If its considered ricey though then so be it. I'm painting them again in the spring. I guess I'm a ricer all right.

Thumbs up

Well it will probably look good on your car and most people will like it too. But when people ask about your brakes and why they are painted red, then what? Or when an enthusiest looks at you crazy, you'll know why. I am not knocking your hustle, just letting ya know some things.........

unx979, since there are very limited parts for your car, I think cross drilled rotors and some upgraded brake pads would justify coloring your brakes!

Mandy, I see your in Atlanta. Sunday I'm helping a bud in a Caddy Catera color his red , I know but he's my friend so I'll help him. Your welcome to watch or join us.

Silver is a good color (or black) if you want to hide that rust and make the calipers more presentable.....

You're right. I was planning on painting mine black this spring. Red gets too dirty and then it looks worse than before.
