New Headunit - Music Doesn't Sound Right
So I just installed a new Pioneer DEH-P670MP or something. I did it because the cd stopped working and so forth. Anyways, now I don't get the "surround sound" I'm used to getting. The speakers above the rearview mirror are overpowering the speakers by the door. The guy said he just plugged in all the wires, was I supposed to do something else? Is there some setting I should change to make it sound like the stock player? Oh yeah and the last owner lost the car manual so I am not sure if I was supposed to plug things in differently or not. Any help would be much appreciated. I've resorted to sending the sound to the back for now

Hmmm...actually your speakers above the rear view mirror aren't even supposed to work after you install an aftermarket unit. Maybe your guy did some splicing b/c that's the only way they'll work. If he JUST wired the new harness to your stock wiring, those speakers shouldn't work.

your installer probably just spliced wires together. What I, and what i'd recommend, did was to go buy a wiring harness kit. Simply solder the new stereo wire harness to the kit, and plug into the stock wire harness.
If you want to use the dome speakers, he needs to add a capacitor and a resistor i believe. The tweeters are getting way too much power. You probably already know that the dome speakers will not work with a new headunit and a new harness.

The speakers above your head adjacent to the map light is rated at 8 ohms, I believe. If it was just a splice, the deck's feeding a 4 ohm signal to them and for sure, they'll be louder.

Thanks for the info guys, but unfortunately I have no idea what all this is, I'll have to do some more research I guess. How much should a wire harness cost? and are there any good DIY guides you guys know of?

Metra is the brand of harness adapter, and the overhead speakers originally have a separate plug (it's blue). The OEM HU had an 8 ohm signal coming out of the hole for the blue plug, and a 4 ohm signal to the other speakers. To reduce the ohm rating going into the speakers, or actually, to increase the resistance of the speakers, pull apart the maplight housing and rewire the speakers in series. It will effectively make the speakers 16 ohm and it should balance out the sound. Now, last night I had 15 minutes of half-sleep (I could still hear my friends packing), so I might be talking out of my arse. Somebody want to verify?
