Nasty Blower Motor
I heard this fan tick coming from my passenger side. I had them (Acura guys) take apart the dash and look at it. Turns out my blower motor is on it's last legs. It's going to cost $1020 (CDN) to fix unless I can find one out of a crashed 2.5TL. This is horrible news as all I need is my car to last until August when I buy a new TSX.

I'd check some wrecking yards quickly and constantly.. items that expensive disappear quickly.

If like my 91 Accord, it's not the motor (of course Acura will charge full retail which will be a fortune) it's getting to it (time). They had to disconnect my AC then recharge it. Cost me about $300 for the used motor and work for the Accord. Didn't think that was too bad of a deal. We have a honda / Acura repair shop here that's more reasonable and the service manager and owners don't have the ATTITUDE that the take it or leave it Acura Dealer has.

I had an issue with the blower motor some time back and someone told me that the dealership charges about U.S. $700 to replace it. A new motor costs U.S. $227.xx + shipping. It's the labor that kills. I suppose they have to take the entire dash apart to replace the motor...some crazy design! Luckily the issue was resolved and I didn't have to replace the motor.

Unless you DIY, the savings aren't worth putting a used motor in a difficult location.
It's a shame these motors are not more robust or designed for repair. I've disassembled a couple of Accord blowers to see if the brushes (part that wears out) could be replaced. It is just barely possible, but very difficult. If anyone really wants the gory details, PM me for a description. In any case, the brushes may wear because of bearing wear allowing motor to wobble very slightly. I managed to replace a set of brushes in an Accord blower, and they only lasted about 6 months. That was last time I tried a brush replacement.
I installed a rebuilt aftermarket motor from Cardone which only lasted about 8 months. Got my money back from O'Riellys. I then purchased a used blower motor which was still running when I sold the car over 2 yrs later.
Accord blower is relatively easy to remove/install.
Given the level of effort to access the 2.5TL blower, I would replace w/ OEM motor for best chance of long life.
regards

Thanks for your help guys...yeah I know the part is over $300. That's not the killer, you're right. It's getting to it. And there's no way I could put this in myself. I'd destroy the dash. I have to hope it lasts another 6 months until I can buy a TSX.
