K&N Drop In Air Filter

I have read that this helps, a bit more HP, cleanable, will be cheaper in the long run versus regular air filters.

Any comments?

Costs $50 for a set. Paper filters are $15. Figure replace paper filters every 15,000 miles, 3 swaps and you are break even. Although, the cleaning and oil that you need to have for the K&N is about $10 per set, do not know how long it lasts.

But I am in it for the 2~5 HP potential.

Anybody?

Honestly, drop in's don't really give you much HP gain. They will last forever and you really only need to clean it every 25-30000 miles or so. The cleaning kit is good for usually 2 sometimes 3 cleanings so well worth it in that regard.

You may break even in price at 45,000 miles but, K&N last for a 1,000,000 miles.

This is where I bought mine. screw $50 price.

K&N will likely be the last air filter you will ever buy.
And they state that the dirtier the filter gets the better it works.
I check my filter every few months, just to see if i'm attracting any undue amount of dibris.
So far it's as good as ever.

I've had the drop-in for quite some time (maybe 25-30k miles) and haven't cleaned it and it really isn't that dirty at all.

I don't like K&N filters for the specific problem that they lack, filtration.

The darker deposits indicate poorer filtration, and lighter ones better filtration. That said, both the cotton gauze type (K&N) and foam filters (Amsoil & Jackson Racing) showed the same levels of filtration. Both performed poorly compared to the fiberous or paper filters (Napa, Baldwin, and Mazda).

So this K&N Filter is to filter the air that goes into your engine right? And about the air filter that goes through the vents, what brand is good?

Can anyone show me how to replace them?

thanks

i used the drop in filter in the past and although its cost effective in the long-run dont really expect any improvement in HP that you will notice.

I noticed a tiny gain in my Vigor, and slightly better gas mileage. Nothing to "OOO!" or "AH!" about. I'm getting one for my TL tomorrow.
