Just hit 100K
I just hit 100K miles yesterday. I feel like this is a sentimental moment between me and my girl, me and her been through alot (even though I bought her at 96K). What suggestions ( maintenance wise) do you have with respect to my car? What should I look out for or have done? I bought her a 96k and I never had a tune-up yet. I have a 96' 2.5 tl with 100001 miles.

Well, since you have hit that magical 100K mark, you should probably take a look at everything. Most importantly, replace the timing belt, the waterpump, the thermostat, and the accessory belts (A/C, alternator, etc.). Also, you might want to replace the fuel filter, the spark plugs, and the brake pads. It seems like a lot, but trust me...I just did all of these services and it feels like a brand new car again. If you do these things, your TL should last another 100K miles!

90k....not 120...I wouldn't risk going over 90k cause once that belt breaks, the water pump doesnt cool the engine and BOOM...blown head gasket..

Yeah, they are definitely interference engines. If the belt breaks, you'll need a new engine. Thats because the valves will get smashed by the pistons.

Don't the first gen manuals say 105k for normal driving? Most of us fall into the normal driving ballpark. I changed mine at 110k after reading in this forum that our engines are interference engines. The shop where we have our work done; they told me that the timing belts are nice & wide, they have actually seen one break. We have 167k on ours, still running strong.

Yeah, 105 to 110K miles is the norm for a Honda engine under normal conditions.
However, if you do a LOT of stop and go, live in extreme weather areas or are just plain harsh on your car, stick to the severe maintainence schedule.
