I think my head gasket is blown

not sure but this is what i think. Just got a new radiator, new hoses and new thermostat. Car runs without overheating but if i drive non stop for 45 min or more, it will overheat. No leaks, the coolant just fills up the overfill.
Before i attempt to get a head gasket change, CAN I go to the dealer and get a check to find the exact problem? How much would that cost?

I know a friend who has people at Acura of Santa Monica, in California. Can they screw the company and give me the dirt cheap price for a BHG? How much?

If its not worth it, option B would be just selling the friggin thing:
1995 acura TL 2.5 175,000 miles, everything else is in nice condition.
For option B, how much should i sell the car with a blown head gasket??

Go to the dealer and get it checked out. You can do a compression test on your own too.

SOUNDS like same problem I had, checked all of cooling system, then gave up and did the Type II swap instead of the Head Gasket. I would say you will probably end up with a BHG if you don't already.

what tha???

WELL last night i niticed a little leakage under the car. Just a few drops o f coolant. Pop open the hood and i hear a hissing noise. So i inspected the top radiator hose and found a tiny hole. Weird. This is the first time my hose sprung a hole. Could that have happened because of too much pressure? Maybe the radiator guy didnt bleed the thermostat when he installed my new radiator last week.

If this problem is because of a blown head gasket, thers no way i have $1300-1700 for a repair. How much is a reasonable price to sell as is> 175K MILES everything else is nice on the car.

Get the hose fixed and drive it around again. My radiator hose gets swollen when hot. It could be that because if the air won't bled, the pressure would increase.

Worth a try to fix.

YUP im changing the hose as we speek, gonna bleed the radiator. IM saving my paychecks to prepare for an emergency Head gasket job if necessary, Im a college student barely make ten bucks an hour, plus food for the parents and gas etc. In the HG case, who knows a place where i could get it done for under $1000. I know its possible if the dealer is about $1200 or $1400.
Im located in Southern California.

does ur coolant mixes up with the oil?? do u have to keep adding coolant to ur rad?
do u burn coolant?( put ur hand on the exhaust feel moisture or a sweet smell)

there might be a air lock in your system.. make sure there is no such thing... (run ur car with the rad cap open for a while until the fan kicks in)

when u run ur car with the rad cap open do u see very small bubbles constatly rising?

does ur fan work?

check those things and post

The typical head gasket leak in our cars does not show up ANYWHERE. There is nooil mixing with cooland or vice versa. The ONLY thing you may notice is that the coolant is darker because of the carbon getting into it. This is the same as the Legend guys have. go to the Legend forum and check out there, you will see TONNES of posts on this subject.

You won't be able to bleed the thermostat because it is inside the lower radiator hose.

Here is what you should do.

Preferrably in the afternoon is the more ideal time to do it.

Make sure your engine hasn't been ran in the past couple of hours. You don't want coolant to shoot at your face. I do this prior to starting my car for the first time during the day.

1. Turn on the car and then turn on the heater to the hottest setting with the fans blowing at full speed.

2. Open up the hood and then open the radiator cap.

3. Loosen up the bleeder valve that should be near the end of the upper radiator hose. A 12mm socket fits in there I think. I forgot the exact size. You can loosen it or just take out the whole valve. Either way works.

4. Let the car run for about eh.. 2 minutes or so just to get the coolant flowing warm enough.

5. Pour your premixed coolant (50/50 coolant/distilled water) into the radiator until coolant flows out of the bleeder valve.

6. Once it does, tighten the bleeder valve and close the radiator cap.

Do this once for a few days until the radiator is full.

o.k. so it will take more then 1 time to bleed in order to get all th3e air out. Is it possible that my HG is not blown. Maybe too much air in the system? Like i said a few times before, the coolant doesnt leak anywhere. The problem im having is, if i drive rfor a long time like 1 hr straight, when my car heats up, the coolant will go to the overflow. Can too much air cause this.
Cornflake said his car overheated quickly and he had no leaks and oil wasnt mixing with water as well.
My thing is my car wont ovewrheat quickly. It takes like an hour of pure driving to maybe overheat. Sometimes it wont overheat at all.

so long as you're not doing more than 60mph, your engine will probably never overheat with a blown head gasket. I was able to drive my subaru outback for 600 miles with one head gasket blown!

your best bet is to let an experience person check it out for you

This be part of the air problem. My friend from acura noticed the PCV valve was defective. When i turn the car off, the PCV valve fizzes like and makes the noise of air exiting the gap. I bought a new valve from autzone for like$3, and installed it. But it still didnt fix it. Do i need to put a sealant around the bottom of the PCV valve?
