How fast have you gotten your TL?

i was just wondering whats the fastest u have ever got with ur TL

I got a 96 2.5 TL and i was straggling at 190 km/h. i was accelerating from 170 very slow too. :sqnteek:

Ken1997TL 07-19-2004 01:52 PM

I've done 145 mph in my 3.2 on a closed course. Thats about 230 km/h or so.

TLBaller 07-19-2004 03:03 PM

90 on the freeway in my 2.5. i live in a big city so there are no hidden roads around where im at.

145 was sick. I had the proper tire setup at the time (Pirellis) These days I just have decent Toyo tires.

I bet most of the 3.2's out there will do 140+ if they have stock wheels. They seem to be fairly light.

Nice! I had mine up to 225 KM/H (140 MPH) on the highway EARLY one morning nwith my 18's when they had NEW Yoke Parada's on them. Car handled AMAZING at that speed. Was very impressed.

Mikes96TL03CLS 07-20-2004 01:06 PM

I did 130, it was fun, hehe.

trickymaster 07-20-2004 04:39 PM

what is the limit? i've been wondering about that for awhile... has anyone gone 150-160mph?

HQuakers 07-20-2004 09:34 PM

I do beleieve the computer limits the car to 150-155mph. Correct me if I am wrong.

i ran 157 on the speedometer... but i know i wasn't going that fast due to the size of my rims and tires. you can't really assume that you're going as fast the speedometer says.. its not acurate at higher speeds.

Yeah, definitely. If you are running something other than the stock setup, your speedometer is going to be off.

It may, but I really don't think with a stock set-up these cars are capable of much more than 145 MPH. I know at 220 KM/H (just under 140 MPH) my car didn't have much left to pull.

Ken1997TL 07-21-2004 11:47 AM

I've read that the stock limit is 153 mph. It is electronically limited. I doubt our cars can go much faster.

When it comes to top speeds, the law of diminishing returns applies.

Its easy to get to 130 mph but to get to 140 or 150 mph requires much more power.

I had an 88 Accord with a 98 hp engine. It could do 125 to 130 mph. But to reach 150, would probably require another 50 hp.

Look at cars that go 200 mph or more. They sometimes have 600 to 700 hp or more!

PimPinTL-S 07-30-2004 06:28 PM

when i first got 02 tl-s used of course i did 130mph on my way home from the dealership. had to test it out u know make sure everything was runnin good. :D

Very true, but a well engineered car can reach that 200 MPH speed with much less HP. Look at the Ferrari's, 190 MPH 512 TR, 425 HP. THAT's Engineering. ;)

spooky3ce 09-09-2004 02:33 AM

About 135 to 140... i know it couldn't go more because my foot was floored... happened about 2:00 a.m. Southbound 101 Hwy from Salinas, CA to Gonzales, CA... Normally a 20 min. drive... did about 10 to 11 i think...lol... or was i dreaming... i don't know... i had just gotten out of work... double shift...

R6HURLEY 09-09-2004 02:30 PM

135 across michigans upper peninsula. Didn't see any other traffic, it was 2 a.m.

oulaw29 09-09-2004 10:57 PM

Alot of it has to do with your tranny. You could gear our trannys so that they crawled like a snail for the first 20 mph (thus not undrivable in day to day life) but could make it up to 155-160

The 3.2 just dosnt have the horsepower with the stock tranny to get over 137-145 mph range. I have tried about 9 times now. 3 times with exhaust, weapons-r, and no cat converter. I just sat there for over a minute.......... 139................................140............ ......................141......................... .......142,

kempdaddys96tl 09-11-2004 09:02 PM

i have a 96 2.5tl and its relly slow from o to 20 but when it hisa 20 its gone

Ken1997TL 09-12-2004 04:04 PM

147 on my latest test run.

Estimated 235 hp (conservative estimate could be as high as 250) with Type II engine heads, Bayou chip, custom intake.

Spare tire and jack removed.

Stock wheels.

Next project is a better flowing exhaust.

spooky3ce 09-12-2004 06:08 PM

is there a Type II heads for the 2.5???

Ken1997TL 09-12-2004 06:19 PM

No. Type II engines are Legend motors. 6 cylinder only.

Type 1 was 200 hp (same engine as the 3.2 TL) Mated to either a 4 auto or 5 manual.

Type 2 was 230 hp. Either a 4 auto or 6 speed manual. It has different valves, different intake timing and fuel timing changes.

TL-LATER 09-26-2004 08:14 PM

I went 135 then I got pulled over but it was still fun and rode like a champ even going in and out of heavy traffic

N.W.A.TL 09-30-2004 03:09 AM

kempdaddys96tl 10-02-2004 11:20 PM

Yeah, I putted about 145 on my 3.2 a stock too.

youngTL 11-14-2004 08:06 PM

2.5TL got it to 214km/h on the flat highway. I guess that's about 133mph. It has the highest top speed of any vehicle my family owns or has ever owned (hehe we drive slow things in Canada).

UnsanePyro 11-28-2004 08:30 PM

I was on the highway up to Vermont and there was a TSX that was shadowing me as I went along. I would be in the left hand lane (2 lanes) doing anywhere from 75-90, and he would follow from a safe distance behind me, and I would switch lanes, he would too. It bugged the hell out of me because all of the traffic was doing it, I was always the lead car, so I went back into the right hand lane and eventually they all got past me and got off, except for the TSX. Now in front of me, he won't let me pass him, I try to a few times, but it never really works out. Needless to say, the road straightened out, and you could see for a good long ways, not even trees in the middle, no cops, no problem. We 'raced' to the next turn in the highway, I don't know if he really was or not. We were actually really even, but either I started pulling or he let off around 115, I went all the way to 125, moved back into the right hand lane, and slowed down for the upcoming curve (the roads were wet from some scattered showers).

So 125 is a new record for me :)

I was thrilled at how smooth the car felt, even at 125 I felt safe in it, I felt like there was rom to go faster, and slowing down and going around the next bend, I felt confident.

:D

152 on the highway at 2 am on my way home from the club

152?! any mods to your car? Stock tires and rims? I've been told that our TL's wont do much above 142ish, so I was just wondering.

The speedometer is somewhat inaccurate on most cars past 125 mph. You really need a radar gun to determine your speed for you, like at a track. In my case it was 145 but my speedometer claimed 160.

That was for kicks not the fastest i've gone though, as you can see i was a little low on gas.

I'll be right up there with ya in a few weeks. Finally went and paid for my motor on Monday, supposed to be delivered yesterday, didn't show up, so I'm gonna phone this morning and find out exactly where it is. ;) Will be driving g/f's old Scirocco for the meantime... not looking forward to that, I think it's top speed is about 100 MPH, on a GOOD day!!! :P

sweetpumpy87 01-05-2005 02:44 PM

I have done 150 or just above, the car stopped pulling at 140 but I whooped my friends 2003 Tiburon GT V-6 from a stop to 130 which is where his car is governed.
