How do these wheels sit on our 1st Gen TL's?
Anyone have pictures of our 1st Gen TL's with those flat star Acura CL 2 Gen wheels? I thought I had seen one on here, but havent been able to find it. I once saw one on Cardomain.com, but it was an angled picture. I would like to see a full side picture of it.
So if anyone has one, or a link to one , please point me to it!!!
Thanks everyone!!!

I purchased brand new 17 inch wheels and tires off a '03 CL type S on eBay a few years ago ($750.00) and had them fitted to my '97 3.2 TL. They went on without any problems. They also look awesome and make the TL look sporty and classy--unlike a ricey, blinged pimpmobile like so many chrome 18-inch wheels tend to do. Okay, hold the flames...
Last fall I replaced the stock tires (Michelin) with Bridgestone Tourenza's. These are without a doubt the best tires I've owned in my 30 years of driving.
I'll post pics when I get a chance.

Front clear YES, not clear on the rears YET..I discovered a source outside the US that has access to JDM rears for Inspire's for a lot less than the typical $500. And they are not in Japan. I'm working with the vendor to secure a pair and to see if bulk orders can be placed for other forum members..
I love my '97 TL ever since I bought it in '98. Now I've decided to keep it and renew it instead of buying a new car. Want to do sensible mods...
Recent mods include: Diamond D6 speakers + crossovers, Alpine V12 5 channel amp, Alpine 6-cd changer, Visonic 10" sub; clear fronts, HD mesh grille, delete front license plate, bumper plugs, CLS rims, will be getting Alpine double DIN DVD soon to finish things off. May install nav next year.

Oh yeah, and also included in the recent mods are the ubiquitous wood shifter and chrome shift gate...
...oh, and I realized that the speakers I've got are the Diamond Hex's; not D6's. I HAD D6's until I blew one of em out last year while blasting the system. Cones on Hex's are made from Kevlar and Nomex and apparantly have better tensile strength than the D6's. They sound very clean at high power.
Taking the car in to the dealer next Monday to get the EPA warrantee work done. Never knew about that until I read it today in the forum! Great resource here
Next on the list is getting the leather seats renewed. A guy from Fabrion said he could take care of the driver's seat wear and a few other interior blemishes (incuding eliminating all the scratches on the black rear trunk plastic panel ) for $150.00. He said he's been doing this kind of work for 15 years and can patch and color match the parchment leather color perfectly...we'll see about that!
I'll take before and after pics and post them here

Capricho: I've got a 97 TL 3.2 that I've pretty much decided to do the same thing too. The car is nearing 200K miles and still runs very well, one of the nicer driving (paid for and low taxes!) cars I've owned.
I replaced the broken CD player with a Kenwood Double-DIN unit that is nice. Did the speakers at the same time too.
On my list are the Inspire tails, clear fronts, an HID conversion (advice on kits would be appreciated), and wouldn't mind the grill. (Where'd you get it?) Also curious about the chrome shift-gate. (Already has wood knob)
I'll have to wait a bit on tires, I've got brand-new tires on the car, don't really want to toss them to get to 17" tires.
I may check into that Fabrion deal too. There's a guy near enough me to be workable, one of the things the car does need is some interior clean-up.

The chrome shiftgate can be done one of two ways. I was lazy and bought a shiftgate meant for a 2004 RL.
Here is the part number:
54712-SZ3-A80
Expect to pay 20 to 25 for it.

The mesh grille has been discussed a lot here...go to Home Depot or Lowes and then go to the section where they sell gutters. You will find a product called Gutter Guard , and it's either sold in individual strips or in a pack of 5 or 6. I had my body guy install it when I got the bumper repainted and he basically screwed it in and used some zip ties. The size that it comes in is nearly perfect for covering up the lower grille opening on the front bumper. It looks fantastic. I had them put a clear coat on it so it won't tarnish over time. The material is galvanized iron.
I would recommend against the HID conversion. It is actually illegal if it is not OEM and I'm not sure if it's really worth it in the long run. Decent kits are rather pricey. I'm converting my head light bulbs to Osram Silverstars and I'll call it a day.

dont get gutter guard. that stuff is crap and looks cheap. go to www.grilleguy.com and order a denali grille from them. that's what i did. 10x better but yes, more expensive. they're pre-cut to fit our cars so you just slide them in and that's it.

Personally I prefer the look of the gutter guard over the perforated aluminum. For each his own...It seems that you can probably get a better deal if you wanted to go the 'Denali Route' to just purchase the stuff wholesale from a supplier like McNicholls. That's probably where the Grille Guy gets his materials.

Nice thing aboout the Gutter Guard grille is that it is SO inexpnsive that if over time, I want to change it I can without feeling like I've thrown a bunch of money down the rat hole...I may look into getting a wire mesh grille similar to the new Bentley's in a 306 stainless steel to replace the galvanized GG. I do prefer that the grille is behind the opening and not in front though...gives it more of a subtle look.
