Question High RPM's

I am really new to acura. got car only a month ago. I just got a question about my 1996 2.5 TL. Its kinda hard shifting and the accelaration is not all that great. But what scares me most is that the RPMS are over 3000 when driving over 70 mph. Is this common or is there a problem I need to take care of?

Don't trip chocolate chip ... the 2.5 is a high comression engine...notice you redline at 7,000 while most engines with more power redline at around 6.

As far as acceleration and hard shifting...get ur tranny flushed and make sure you fill 91 octane.

High RPM's are normal in a smaller displacement engine.

What was your previous car?

Is there instruction on how to flush the tranny? I wasn't sure if there's a thread about it. If someone knows how, could ya show us?

unless you have the machine to do it right, i would have it done at a local shop or the dealer (although that'd be more expensive). if you just run water thru it until it's clear, that'll clean it, but not flush it. i know it sux to shell out money for something you should be able to do yourself, but $70'ish isn't horrible considering the consequences of what could be if you don't do it or mess something up tryin to do it yourself. just my

I got mine fully flushed at the dealer. It was a couple hundred Canadian, but it was SO worth it. The shifts are almost ghostly now. Also, hit the gas a little! The 2.5 is rev happy (like most Hondas)
Your fuel consumption won't go up very much if you hit 4000ish while you accelerate in city traffic, and it's a lot more fun. I'm used to bringing it up there when I want the power.

not to scare you, but my mom's old legend RPM went up very high before it shifted. That's a sign of tranny problem.
