Help: Scalloped tired, bad struts, expensive repair!
My 96 Acura 3.2TL (163,000 miles) has gone through 2 sets of tires due to heavy wearing (scalloping) on both front tires (inner band only) . This may be due to worn struts if the $29 inspection I paid for is any good. After the first set of tires had to be replaced I had the steering aligned, and the tires have always been properly inflated, but the heavy wearing returned after only 10,000 miles .
Repair is estimated at about $1000 , most of it parts (front struts and control arms). I'm sure the job would be more if I went to a dealership though. I think I'm stuck with the high cost because I'm not interested in doing the labor myself, and there are no aftermarket struts available.
I'd like to drive the car safely for another 50,000 miles, so I'm thinking of fixing it rather than replacing the tires every 10,000 miles and praying for good traction when I need it .
My concern is the risk that the problem isn't really the struts , I'd hate to spend a $1000 and not fix the problem . I'm turning to this forum for advice, particularly from the high mileage 3.2TL crowd.
Has anybody else experienced this problem? How did you resolve it?

You can use either 3.2 TL parts (1996 - 1998) or Acura Legend parts (1991 - 1995)
If I had the opportunity, i'd get them from a Legend GS sedan.
