The EGR wont affect idle THAT much... its something else..
EGR affects emissions/fuel economy..
In theory, blocking it off at its base will improve performance slightly.. at the cost of HEAVY gasoline useage

I think your egr passage way is clogged.
Usually, a shop blows in pressured air into passage way to clean egr passageway , but pror to that, they spry carb cleaner into it and let it sit for a while.

Well, those are great sugg. I have done both, may have done more harm than good on the egr psg so I'll double check. THanks! BTW I have a 98 with a 97 motor in it and the dealership is f*$*ing me AGAIN.
