First Acura, 1998 2.5 TL
Hi guys, It's nice to find a forum with tons of people who appreciate this baby as much as I do.
So after an Impala, and a Bonneville, I decided to get myself an Acura on a superb deal. I fell in love with the 1st generation TL's back when I was a valet. It was right up there with the higher classes in terms of comfort and it has that sporty touch. The lines... What to say about the lines that hasn't already been said about Jessica Biel. Solid, fine and very do-able.
So I found this 1998 2.5 TL, silver with spoiler, has some body rust spots but the floor is mint, few things to fix ( windshield weatherstrip molding, Fuse\headlight bulb, very minor stuff ) the guy who sold it told me about head gasket problems. I test drived the car, on highway and city, and offered the man, 100$. Yes that's right 100$.
The muffler is new (althought I had to change the front flex pipe since it's the only part that wasn't changed and it rusted out), The radiator is new from a few months.
There is no oil drips, radiator is 100% clean of oil, no white smoke out of the exaust, the car does not overheat, AT ALL.
However there is a oil smell coming out of the hood (with occasional white smoke from oil hitting the manifold), after doing my homework, turns out the man had it wrong, VALVE gasket leaking, not head gasket, lol right?
I'm still wondering if there's also a head gasket problem, however like I said, I got none of the symptomes. Car runs GREAT.
I'm planning on doing the usual fluid flushes next week, Oil, tranny, differencial, brake ect. And get the windshield trim re-done (any idea how much that'll cost?)
Feel free to shim in
Oh btw the car has 239 000 KM's, mostly highway (guy made 70km to work everyday for 4-5 yrs)
Rocka
