don't bean me with full soda cans....

hey all- - - i'm new on here, and i've been searching the threads for some info on swapping a 2.5 in my 96 tl for a 3.2 from a gen 1 (or later if possible)... one guy got stoned bad for wanting to swap, and the others didn't seem to apply too much... anyone done this or know anyone who did? successfully? lol

--------------------

fyi- little about my tl 2.5- 96- about to squeeze 19's on it, tint, kenwood 979 deck, music keg, 1 audiobahn linear 12" (WOW!!), slot ported box, digital audio (by audiobahn) amps totaling 2300 wrms, blitz 2 farad cap, 109k, strobes, clear corners, white fogs, viper 791 w remote start and a gaggle of sensors, cobra radar hardwired, uh.... ok so thats about it for now...

adding those 19's, kenwood 7015 dvd, couple more monitors later in the summer, back up cam (just cuz), stripping the 35% tint and going with 20%, and needless to say i'd like to get more than 176 hp, and they don't make BUT so much for this 2.5- absolutely love the car tho- sexy lines.... y did i not just buy a 3.2? got a HELLUVA deal on this one...

any insight? thanks

The front end of the chassis are completely different on both cars. You're better off buying a 3.2TL then attempting this swap. But if you got lots of money sitting around just buy the motor and send it to a shop and see what happens.

There's a huge difference under the skin of the cars.

I wouldn't do it if I were you. Too much of a headache. If you want more power then build a turbo.

Yeah, it would be a cool project, but by the time you got got done, the price tag would probably be waaay up there, and with that money you could probably go with a custom turbo, manual swap or something that would be better.

Just think, if you have to custom fabricate new mounts and do a lot of work of that sort, and you ever get into an accident, it all has to get custom fabricated again, which will probably be hard as hell to do and get a real amount of money from insurance.

Are there other motors that'll fit in the 2.5's bay with little modification? Maybe you could try one of those...

thanks for the input, guys...

well, to my knowledge the 2.5 is the largest that would fit- was crossing my fingers on the 3.2 i'd welcome a 3.5, but uh... whaddaya do..

Doesn't the 3.5 engine fit the 3.2? Not sure on that...

It does.

The 3.5 engine is a C32 motor with a longer piston stroke.

I wouldn't mind having that in my TL...

And I'm guessing it's only the first gen 3.5 RL engines?

The 3.5 engine is all about torque.

You'd have a great launch but after that, it'll run out of breath.

An examination of it's headers design by a guy in the Legend forum confirms that the thing is tuned for low end.
