Dome Tweeters

So could i replace these stock speakers with tweeters or another mid range speaker? Need to hook up my sounds!

jrot 08-08-2012 02:49 PM

you could put a set of tweets in there but there are alot of factors to consider sound wise. acura appears to have them crossed over as "mids" its really just sound fill so not alot of volume or tone. keep in mind also that you also have dash tweets and if you swap the domes to highs it could get pretty intense, and not in a good way.on the other hand if you do want to try it i would recommend (per past posters here) that you wire the left channel and right channel backwards (CHANNELS NOT POLARITY) so that it provides proper fill, but even if you dont use the dash tweets i think that placement would be too too intense and annoying over time. there are also posts i think on how to keep the stock mids on aftermarket head units, though unfortunately i dont have that link right now. NOW all that being said im also on the hunt for a suitable "mid" fill replacement, but no luck yet. ive been looking at how i could fit a 3.5" which seems to be the smallest mid i can find though i dont think there is a stylish way to pull that off. NOW NOW that all THAT has been said, i think that a nice set of components properly amped in the door and using the factory spots for the tweets would be more than enough fill and you would never even miss those dome speaks.

its kind of a weird set up really cause the rear 6x9s seem to be crossed to mostly lows as well. kinda neat that they took some time to think out the stereo that much and mine factory set up is pretty decent, and was probly damn nice for mid/late 90s.

hopefully others will tip in where i missed something or with the proper links.

^ I had a bunch of very nice sounding aftermarket 2" mids. Sold most of them as they're not only hard to find, but expensive.

Leave the stock mids alone, just have them hooked up with a resistor for fill. The dash tweeters are perfect for imaging, and they're run off the front channels without any additional wiring on your part.

so the dash tweets run off the front channel when installing an aftermarket HU?

jrot 08-08-2012 11:13 PM

that i dont know as i havent had the radio out yet to check wires ect, but i would think the mids would yes, one thing i have not found out was the impedance of the factory system speakers, i think the bose from the newer tl's was a 2ohm set up and if the acura version is that way as well then youll be driving an aftermarket head a bit over what it wants, and even though it would be loud it may shorten the life on the deck, if its aftermarket amped though should be no big deal.

I've got three sets of our stock mids, and of the six speakers they're all bad except for one. I don't know how they go bad, but it's not the connector or the wire from the connector to the speaker because I've tested them. From what I've encounter, I would say that they are a common failed item on our cars.

Yes, that's what Go90go said.

jrot 08-09-2012 05:03 PM

awesome so if your testing them then what ohm is this system set at? ive heard its a 2ohm system, which would make alot of sense to me, would allow them to get more power out of the deck. and if thats true there are some pretty kick ass 2ohm speakers coming out these days that would allow for stock replacements and keeping the factory head which it seems like a few people would like to do. by people i mean ME!

BTW how are you testing them?? just ohming them or hooking them up or ????

Ken1997TL 08-10-2012 01:02 AM

The correct term for them is 'twiddler' :D

main70072 08-10-2012 10:26 AM

IIRC it's 4ohm, and I just directly hook the 'twiddlers' to the HU to test them one by one.

Ken1997TL 08-10-2012 10:38 AM

They're 8 ohms :)

jrot 08-10-2012 02:12 PM

TWIDDLERS!!!!!best ever!!! ok so if they are 8 ohm then are they wired in to the same channel as the front door sets?? and that would pull the whole system down to a 4 ohm system or is the entire cars system 8ohms???

Go90go 08-10-2012 03:54 PM

System is 4-Ohm. The dome mids are on a separate plug (blue) on the factory deck.

~Cheers~

jrot 08-10-2012 06:48 PM

nice that means ive got damn near enough extra parts to replace my factory speakers.

jrot 08-10-2012 07:43 PM

so do you have to pull the door panel to change speakers? or can i just pull the grille thingy?

Ken1997TL 08-10-2012 07:44 PM

Yeah you have to take off the door panel but it's very easy. Only a few philips screws.

Small flathead for the covers by the interior door handle and door release handle.

jrot 08-11-2012 11:28 AM

are there any #s on the speakers themselves??? and if the door panels are out would it be smart to go ahead and address the slow window issue at that time???

Ken1997TL 08-11-2012 11:30 AM

Yep, just grease up the tracks

There are random numbers on the back of the dome mids. I think each speaker is 4ohm since the door speakers have 4ohm stamped on each one of them, too.

jrot 08-12-2012 11:12 AM

none of the random #s are a part #???

main70072 08-16-2012 07:32 PM

No, none of them are part numbers because I just looked them up. Here are the numbers if you want to decipher them: EAS5PJ114A and 5413C

I don't know what is significant about our stock sound system that makes them soo expensive, but here are a couple of part numbers just for the hell:

39120-SW5-A02 ... Matsushita dome mids (they call them tweeters) ~$100 each
39100-SW5-A00 ... Panasonic radio ~$2,000 each

jrot 08-17-2012 08:56 AM

that deck price is CRAZY!!!

Mandy 08-18-2012 07:41 AM

Just replaced my HU and it does not run the dome tweets. Still cool. Now putting in a Bazooka tube replacement. The original one busted 2 years ago, just got 1 to replace it recently, used one.

With the new HU and the Bazooka, back to heaven.

Go90go 08-18-2012 09:21 AM

Dome mids have a separate plug. The dash tweets should be working, though.

~Cheers~

jrot 08-18-2012 09:59 PM

i kinda want to put in some hertz 2ohm components up front. would be sweeeeet!!!!
