Does anyone here have HID's installed in their first generation TL's?

I was just wondering if it has been done in first generation TL's. I did a search and couldn't find anything. I'm looking into doing this for my faincee's 1996 2.5 TL. I'm wondering if there is a preferred brand/model to get. What would be the average cost. And how difficult it would be to install them.

I also looked into Sylvania SilverStar at Autozone. http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...ce/Silverstar/
Does anyone have any opinion on these? Thanks.

I have a 6000k set up. There's a newer kit from the same manufacturer that my bro just bought and all you have to do is plug it into the stock bulb socket. No need to have a power cable connected to the battery like the kit that I have. You can get it at www.ultrabrightlights.com. They auction off their kits on ebay as well, which is $30-$50 cheaper than the price on their website, so go check on ebay first. I havent had any problems wit it so far and I highly recommend their product. They're McKulloch HIDs btw, one of the best aftermarket kit imo.

here's some pics of my HIDs

Hey whatsup sushimaster, if you plan on getting HID's either go for a retrofit like tl-ridaz did, with oem projectors being mounted into the headlight or get some OEM stuff like Hella ballasts, philips bulbs, and a custom wire harness made. You'll also need the H4 casper shields to hold the bulb in place and to get a nice beam pattern. I wouldn't recommend a kit because 1st off, they produce lots of glare to on coming traffic. Second, anything rated a higher kelvin then 4100k produces less lumens and wont be as bright as stock 4100k's. The higer kelvin you go, yes you do get a nice bluish/purplish hue, but the light output on the road is horrible, not bright at all. This is just my opinion.

Although it's true that the higher the kelvin, the less light output you'll get. But it's not that much less because my cuzzin has an M3 and my head lights are almost or just as bright as his. My 6000k are more white than blue, so I don't worry about getting pulled over or anything. Also, I aligned my headlights and just put on the eyelids and now I have a horizon line when the HIDs are on. If you have the money, then I agree, go with the OEM set up. But if money is an issue, then a kit would be just as satisfying imo.

i have eyelids on also.. it doesnt effect the beam pattern @ all. I'm using hella ballasts, philips 4100k bulbs that are color shifted, custom wire harness made, and H4 Casper shields. I paid 350 for everything installed. Another issue with kits is that the plug is not a standard D2R. It is cut and soldered with an H4 harness with the bulb connected to it. Search on ebay for H4 HID KITs and you'll see what im talking about. Lets say for example, if one of the ballasts on the KIT goes out, you are screwed because they dont usually sell the ballasts by themselves. With the OEM equipment, you can just go out and purchase another D2R ballast. Same goes for the bulbs on the kits, since they are mounted onto the wire harness, if the bulb gets f'ked up, then your screwed. If the bulb goes out on OEM, just go out and purchase bulb.

So what are the colors that you see at each K rating? All I know is that 8500K is blue-ish, since our neightbor has that in his BMW. I've never seen anything besides white, blue, and one time I saw purple (also on a BMW). But some of the ones you guys posted look.. green?

Also, can you tell that you have HIDs in without a protector? I'd think the light would look the same as those blue bulbs since some of us can't afford nice stuff like real HIDs.:P But then again, TLxRacer's HID's look great and it doesn't look like he's got projectors for his headlights.

4100K = white, 4300k is mine, 5100k = white/bluish, 6000k=white/purple-ish. The purple that you see on the BMW is either he has projectors or the color shifts bulb. Most likely a projector as I don't recall seeing any bmw without them. And yes, you can tell someone has hid without a projector, like acura 2nd generation, lexus is300, etc.... All I'm gonna say is that buy OEM Ballast and bulb for the best result. They're usually cost about $150 - $200.

Here's what my car look like https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110327

go here if you want to see what kind of bulb, kit, projectors that other cars like bmw, mercedez, audi, etc... have.

Now...why in the world would you want a 12000k HID? It's practically putting a blue light bulb into your headlights. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe you like the blue light instead of brightness. However, the real HID bulb doesn't go pass 6000K.
