Unhappy Cooling Fan ALWAYS on....

Anybody have the same problem with first gen 3.2 fan coming on and STAYING on for an exceptionally long time after the car is shut off? Seems to be getting worse, and my battery is now feeling the effects of it, fan stays on sometimes for an hour!! This can't be normal. Anyone know if this is a common problem? I am going to take it in and have the thermostat checked, and any fan relays, but still it's been doing this progressively worse now for a year.

Mine stays on a while after the car is shut off but never that long. I did not think it was a problem.

How long does yours usually stay on for? Just a few minutes?

mine has stayed on for more than 15 min before - I'm not sure how long it usually stays on, b/c I'm usually not around the car for a while... I haven't had any battery troubles, though...

What is your engine temp? I wonder if maybe the engine temp sensor is bad?... Does it eventually shut off or just run till the battery is dead?

For about a week last month the fan on my '97 3.2 was staying on for up to 20 minutes afterwards. Now it just stays on for about 2 minutes. I'm guessing it was the 95+ temperatures that were doing it.

What oil are you using? Might be a factor.

Well, a lot of luxury cars do that. Unless it fails to shut off, I don't think it is a problem.

Whats interesting is that I've owned 2 Honda's and 1 Acura, my Dad has owned 7 Honda's and a brand new '03 TL. As far as I remember only 3 cars out of all those even had the fan even stay on afterwards. The '94 Accord Wagon, My TL and My Dad's TL. His '99 Accord V6 never had the fan stay on.

I drove my '88 Accord across country several times and I NEVER once heard that fan stay on. Oh well.

It does eventually shut off. Engine temp is normal always, never runs hotter than half on the dial, usually about 2/5 of the way up. I run Mobile 1 Synthetic 10w30, car has about 100000 miles on it.

Yeah, it eventually shuts off of course, but it seems to be on longer than any other car i've owned or driven. I'm not "concerned" but just curious as to why. The temp gauge is never past just below halfway and I use 0w-20 Honda/Mobil and 97,000 miles on it.

ITS NORMAL

i just bought my 97 3.2TL last FRIDAY and test drove twice and it happened to me too. It stayed on for a very long time(maybe 10min) the dealer says it normal and a buddy of mine is a ACURA certified TECH. and says since this car was made and designed in japan, thats how the japs did it

Mine does the same thing. So many people ask me why it does that. I notice in the winter it rarely comes on. I guess how long it runs depends on how hot the engine is.
