Changing Gauges in 98 TL to Reverse Glow

If anyone has a step by step guide on how to take the gague cluster out and put in new REverse Glow Gauges please let me know. I really want to spice up the bland gauges in my 98 acura TL and these gauges from procarparts.com seem great! But I have no idea how to put them in.

Dementiab,

It's not actually as hard as you think. The hardest part is splicing into a power source to light it up. I did mine a couple years ago and it only took me about an hour...oh yeah, the other hard part is deciding where to mount the dimmer switch.

That is a big shock. I was sure that this would be a huge project. Any directions on what to do? I know nothing about the gauge cover or how to remove it. The wiring I could have someone else do but at least I could get the gauges in myself.

AC_Daddy.. where in jersey do u live??? i will put them in for u if u are willing to come up and meet me or ship them up...

directions...

okay
1.) unscrew the top screws that hold the plastic molding trim...
2.) tilt the steering wheel all the way down, u should see a plastic cover sticking down... behind there are two screws.. take those out...
3.) the whole plastic mold along w/ the left and center vents should come out.. it is all one piece.. be careful not to break any of the vents... use a flathead screwdriver... u can be firm but also friendly at the same time...
4.) once that is out there are 4 more screws holding the guage cluster in... take those out..
5.) once that is out u gotta manuever the guage sideways so u can unclip all the harnesses off the cluster...
when the cluster is free take it out....
6.)bring cluster inside where it is warm cause it is winter now and in jersey it is fvcking 20degrees out...
7.) okay so pop off the clear lens for the meter and then the black trim molding too...
8.) now remove all the screws on the face of the guage face....
9.) okay u are able to move the speedo and tach needles but try not to move the fuel and temp TOO much... if u feel that it is impossible to do... make a visual memory of where they are standing.. easiest to do is go get a full tank of gas before u do this mod so the needle goes all the way up...
10.) okay slide the guages in one by one... (if u have a dremel i would file the inside of the guage just a little)... when u get to the middle where the needle meets the guage... u have to bent the guage at an angle to pop it over the needle... (they made the hole in the guage just the size of the needle so it doesnt just slide in...)
11.) all four guages in??? screw in the four screws to hold them in place....
12.) put everything back together in reverse order....

whew... okay there u go.. good luck... post if u need nemore help or pics.. i can do pics for u guys cause i have to take my cluster apart again.. i got a new clear lens and also i have to take out the blue leds in put in there since the indiglos are covering them anyways... if u need help feel free to ask...

regards,
Andrew

thanks man
im in south jersey right about 10 mins from camden and right over the betsy ross bridge.
i am bout 40 mins from trenton if that gives you an idea where im at.

anyways do you have to bend the new guage to go over the needle? i had trouble fitting the new guage through the needle.

second do you detach the individual guages from the guage cluster?

should you hold the needle still?

thanks again - im sure i will have a couple more questions

yes u need to bent the guage to get it over.. the hole is not bigger than the needle itself... u don't need to detach everything... just slide it on... and yes hold the needle... be firm but also friendly.. u don't want to snap it by mistake...

This sounds easy but where do you draw power from?

You tap into the wire that powers the lights the console already has. It runs from the dimmer.

So do you just cut the wires that come from the dimmer switch and connect them to the new gauges matching the wire colors?
