carbon fiber intake
you say:
Have you been dipping into your stash? Thats just for the filter, it still goes into the factory airbox. I hate the factory airbox, it restricts air flow so much. Its like trying to drink a thick milkshake through one of those coffee straws. I built something like this for 3.2:
I say:
check out nopi.com there's a Weapon R intake for a 97 3.2, it look like an intake, it work like an intake, replaces the filter box, I think its an intake, but you need to buy a filter seprately ( probably a cone $$$) so send me instructions on building my own!

if it is an aftermarket intake, it will replace the factory airbox, some come with the cone filter, but most do not. a good filter will not cost too much......$30-40....but you could spend as much as $200....for a nice anondized one.....i pesonally like K&N filters..

I think you've been sucking that milkshake through that coffee straw a bit too long.

I'm not sure what you were looking for... however I've heard on many boards about home made CAI's using K&N filters.
Take a look at the above URL about a Home Depot kit for a BMW.
