You don;t need a screwdriver. Just use your fingers to pull on all four, it's not that tight. You can see them. On the outside edges at the four corners, there are four tabs thahave asmall hole that goes into a clip on the shiter mechanism. Just use two hands, pull them OUT and lift it up. I replaced mine AT the dealer when I bought the RL one in the parking lot in about 3 seconds!!!

I had the worst problem taking it off too. Then one day, when I was running wires for my iPod, I took the center console off and ran the wires along with taking the shift plate off. It finally came off because the extra room you can work with. Try that.

I posted pictures of it off, but none taking it off. I didn't think it wass going to be needed as I didn't have any problem at all. I used a screwdriver on one side and poped 2 of the clips off and off she came.

this takes too much of your time man, just get a shift plate from the dealer.

Haha...yeah. If you get the right stuff, you can definitely finish this mod within 5 minutes. It really did take me 5 minutes to strip the paint off and reinstall the plate. What took the longest was taking it off. Like I said, I took the center console out to give me more room to work with. There are 4 tabs on each corner, if I remember correctly. Once you pried 2 tabs, you'll be in business.
