Isn't there a way to reset this thing? I forget what its called. It seems to be open when the engine is fully warmed up. Unless its always supposed to let a little air through.

 

Nevah mind. I took it apart and cleaned it. From what I've Google'd its a FITV. Fast idle thermo valve

 

Did you have to tighten yours? They tend to work themselves lose over time, but usually nothing more than a quarter turn.

I unscrewed it all the way and cleaned all the parts. I didn't notice if it was loose. When I put it back together, I turned it until it stopped. Seems to idle better.

I've had a weird loss of power and mpg, and I can't figure out why, so I am trying everything that I can to bump it back up.

 

Adjust until cold idle is at 1500 rpm any higher and there will mpg consumption and take longer for car to warm up as well
