Buying '98 TL 2.5: Need advice.

Hi,

I just joined this forum a short while ago and need quick suggestions:
- I am looking to buy a 1998 Acura TL 2.5; 120K Miles on it; do you think it will work; car condition/interior in mint condition and looks fine to me.
ONly thing is I am worried about the higher mileage and usage of premium fuel;

Do these TL 2.5 lasts long?
Please help me.

Thanks
RK

Welcome to the forums. I deleted your other three posts which you made in other threads since you started this thread. Multiple posts on the same topic are not required.

Be patient and you will get some replies, but things slow down here on the weekends so you may have to wait a bit.

IMO the 1G motor is the strongest motor made out of all the TLs.

If it was taken care of and maintained then the car is fine.

Ask if the timing belt, water pump, ball joints, upper control arms, distributor cap, and ask about tranny (screen, fluid, etc).

It is a great car and I love mine.

I have a 96 2.5 and I have a little less than 133,000 miles on the car.

Premium fuel does not hurt the pocket. If you are worried about spending another $2 on gas then this car may not be for you. It is just $2-$5 more that you will spend on gas. I can afford, we all can afford, and I'm sure that you can afford it.

GL!

If you end of getting it then...

We love pics.

the 2.5 is based on the Vigor platform... my vigor went to 200k no issues before i sold it...

my 3.2TL now has 150k miles and runs strong... you should have nothing to worry about if it was properly maintained...

Thanks all for your suggestions and guidance! I truly appreciate it. Too bad that dealer sold the car to some othe guy last night and told me this morning just before my appointment with him; this is silly!
He told me that the other guy paid him $400 more than what the asking price was, looks like this guy desperately needed the car.

I am looking for an Acura and based out of CT, please let me know if anyone of you know someone who is selling out an Acura..!

I personally like the 1st gen more than 2nd gen..even the Type S (had a few as a demo when I worked for a dealer).

My first gen has 246K on it now, (knock on wood) haven't had any real issues and the car has been in the family since 1999 with 124K miles on it. I had another 1st gen quite a few years ago, I sold it with 131K on it, also had no problems - bought it with 112K.

You're looking to buy a 12 year old car so you will of course have a bit of maintenance to do. Saying that my 14 year old 2.5 has been quite dependable w/ routine upkeep and getting stuff fixed free under the extended emissions warranty such as exhaust manifold, O2 sensors and a free tune up. As far as gas is concerned I sometimes wish that it got mileage like maybe a Corolla, but then the TL is a much more comfortable vehicle. Plus a good condition older car is kinda cool.

If you're DIY, you can find cars easier to work on that 2.5 TL. I have probably had above-average problems, but still like the car. I don't like the location of of oil filter (under manifold), starter (under manifold), blower (requires removing evaporator to access).

These components were much easier to access in Acura CLs and Accords.

good luck
