bought remote unlock fob on eBay, cant get it to work - help

Hi, for my 1996 TL I recently bought this :

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...0872465&rd=1,1

i followed the instructions and it didnt respond at all. is this what other 96 tl owner's fobs look like? im pretty sure i did everything the instructions said.

triggerc 04-16-2007 10:09 PM

most likely the fcc id doesn't match. My remote's FCC ID is GJ808E60-01. Try looking for something like that.

Hans1981 04-16-2007 10:39 PM

mine is CWT72147KA

Hans1981 04-16-2007 10:51 PM

look closer at the auction. the title says it is for a TL but lower down it says an RL. Could I have gotten the one designed for the RL?

triggerc 04-16-2007 11:37 PM

Your FCC ID has to match the ID on your car.

Hans1981 04-16-2007 11:49 PM

where can i find that number at on the car?

triggerc 04-17-2007 12:03 AM

i think all 1st gen TL's are GJ808E60-01

Hans1981 04-17-2007 12:09 AM

do they all look like this : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-A...QQcmdZViewItem

triggerc 04-17-2007 12:19 AM

yep, exactly the same as mine

Hans1981 04-17-2007 12:23 AM

damn, they look old and kinda crappy. do they even have a trunk release button?

Blanco1 04-17-2007 01:22 AM

Depending onw how much you want to spend
you can get a remote start/ alarm system for under a $100
this will give you keyless everything AND remote start.

to spend $30+ with shipping and handleing and having it piss you off becuase it doesnt work isnt worth it in my opinion.

You can get a really cheap alarm and even that will have keyless entry and a set of new remotes

Hans1981 04-17-2007 02:15 AM

i suppose that is an option too, i really just wanted to keep the car as stock as possible though.

daemonicus 04-17-2007 08:56 AM

actually, iirc, didn't the key fobs for the first gen TL look like this...?

triggerc 04-17-2007 09:59 AM

No, my 2.5 tl came with keyless entry. and mine looked like the second one posted

deadsetonlivin 04-17-2007 10:40 AM

Hans... you got the wrong one. The one that was posted last is the one you need. I'll give you intrcutions to program it if you need them.

KrayzieDxC 04-17-2007 11:56 AM

here wat i found of a write up bu the moderators:

Here are the instructions for the 3.2 (I cant find any for the 2.5, i don't think it is programmable, the 1998 2.5 is the exception, it uses the same setup as the 3.2)

1. Open the driver’s door.
2. Push up the driver’s door master power door lock to
the unlock position. Hold it there for the rest of this
procedure.
3. Insert the key in the ignition switch, then remove it.
Repeat this four more times within 10 seconds.
(Steps 3 and 4 must be completed within 10
seconds, or the system will exit the programming
mode.)
4. Insert the key in the ignition switch. Make sure the
power door locks cycle to indicate that the system
has entered programming mode.
5. Press the “LOCK” or “UNLOCK” button on the
transmitter. Make sure the power door locks (all
except the driver’s door) cycle to indicate that the
transmitter has been accepted.
6. To program a second transmitter, press its “LOCK”
or “UNLOCK” button within 10 seconds.
7. Release the master power door lock switch to exit
the programming mode.

My 2.5 came with keyless entry.
I forgot how the remote looked, I put an after market for $100.00 which has a keyless entry and it cuts off ignition.
The Factory remote stopped working...

And give a thief 2 minutes to disable it.

:werd: these days, you're just as safe without an alarm as you are with one.

Hans1981 04-17-2007 11:41 PM

i dont care about the alarm, the only features i want are remote start and door/trunk unlocking.

word..

sweet steal it anyhow. ill justy make out like a bandit off my insurance company...

all alarms are good for are the options like remote start, power truck release, window roll up, and all that other fancy jazz.... and getting you out of bed running outside with the mossberg at 4 am because some fuckin cat ran across the hood.. I mean if you are gonna jack my shit, at least let me sleep in peace. All your gonna get anyways is some tarnished pennies and a bunch of ripped antiflag and cage cd's i already have copies of anyhow. Take the cd player too, ill just get a reciept for a better one. shrugs,,

rubbers dont prevent aids just like those dumbass noise makers dont prevent your shit from being bogarted.

longsta 04-27-2007 01:07 AM

if u really want an alarm my advice is dont get a shitty one u will have probs

2doe 05-23-2007 07:09 PM

yeah, the prices on the original remote is expensive, might as well buy an aftermarket one.

2doe 05-23-2007 07:13 PM

is there a generic one (universal) that we can get for cheap and program?
