Blow motor works after "thumping" - but for how long?

Last week my blower motor completely stopped working, but the problem went away by itself. I did a bit of research on ACURAZINE and concluded that it was either the fan relay or the blower motor itself (thanks for your help TexasHonda). I've taken my dashboard off before to gain access to the heater core, but I don't look forward to having to do that job again.

My question for this forum is this: If "thumping" the dash with the palm of my hand causes the blower to restart today, how long will this continue to work? Days, weeks, or months?

Is there anything else I can do to help keep the blower motor working without removing the dashboard?

Sounds like Tex is right on point with the blower motor you should try checking the wiring see if that helps.

It will run several weeks to a couple of months until the brushes "tumble" and motor is dead. Brushes are loose and spring loading is inadequate to make a good circuit. When you thump the dash, the brushes reseat slightly, make better contact and fan starts.

If you intend to keep the car go w/ a good rebuilt or OEM, not used. Too much labor to access for a used part which may not be much better than removed part.

good luck

Thumping worked for about a year before it finally gave out in my car.

I had the issue around 4-5 years back. My mechanic told me about the thumping trick because he didn't want to pull out the entire dashboard to replace the blower motor. I used to run to fan on the lowest speed (1 bar). He advised me to run it on faster speeds. I am not sure if that helped, but after that summer, I never had this problem again. I always run the fan on 2-3 bars now.

It may last a bit but i'ts doomed just like mine was. Dash bang, door slam even sharp corners may give you some time but not much. Sorry man. I am looking now for one myself.
