Blacked out housing.. without using an oven

Ok, I read about blacking out the headlight housing a long, long time ago and remember it had something to do with putting the housing in the oven to literally bake off the sheild from the rest of the housing.

Um.. since I'm a wuss and am afraid that I'll mess it up (and don't have the time to do it), is there any way to black out the housing without doing anything too drastic?

I dunno what... paint maybe?

In truth, I really love how the stock housing looks without any paint and what not.. but mines chipped to all hell and there's crap on the inside (as in I'd have to do the baking thing to get to it) of the housing- which makes it look really nasty.

I read about using some sand paper to grind down the sheild and then using a buffer and some plastic polish on it to resurface the thing... I'd try it but I have no buffer and don't know anyone that has one.

You put it in the oven to melt the glue enough to pull the lamp apart.

I don't know but I wonder if a heat gun would be enough to spot melt the glue. It would take a lot longer because you'd have to pull it apart bit by bit, but it will be safer than baking I would think.

A heat gun is like a blow dryer on steroids.

Maybe somebody else with better experience could add in.

if you got any more questions just drop me a message and ill try to help you the best i can...
i do this mod so much now.. -_-;

for the crap inside, take the headlight apart and use meguiars plastx.. works like a charm for me...
if you got chips on the outside of your headlight like me, it will always look dirty no matter what...
the heat gun is very ebil... if you heat it up too much you WILL melt your headlight and it will cost about $625 each brand new from the dealer... no joke on the price...

i wouldnt recommend using a heat gun, my friend did that on his del sol side markers, and the plastic started to melt. if you do want to risk it, go very very slow on one of the lower settings
