Black coating on engine

Guys I have seen the pics of your cars and none of you have what mine does, it has a black charcoal paint coating on the lid where the spark plugs are. is this common how can I get it off, cuz is chipping on some parts and it doesn{t look that good.

Sorry i had to put that... i have pics of my engine (Photo Gallery ) and if you see on mine it has like a grey coat of paint on the valve cover where the sparkplugs/where the sparkplug wires run into... about the charcoal coat... that would be cool to change the color of the cover though... make the engine look nice...

Important Question: that would make a differance... is your TL a 2.5 or a 3.2???
