Audio Question

Hey everyone, new to the forum, just got my '96 3.2 TL a few months ago and I absolutely love it, despite the gas mileage , anyway, Ive decided I want to keep it for sure, so Im ready to add some stuff.

It has premium sound, and I keep hearing that this will make the installation of a sub and amp more difficult.

Has anyone here wired their own subs and amp into a TL with premium sound? If so is there anything I need to know?
Thanks
-Phil

There are no issues with subs or amps. Its a fairly straightforward system.

Whats your gas mileage like?

My gas mileage had been about 23-24, but for some reason this tank has gotten under 15 (Ive gotten 170 and less than 1/4 tank left out of 17.2 gallons) and I really need to figure out why, maybe fuel filter or air filter, but Im not sure. Car runs fine, just bad mileage this tank.

Have you set up a sub in your car with premium sound and the stock deck anyone?

Please let me know if you have
Thanks

Hmmm...I was actually under the impression that this car HAD the stock Bose, well this makes things easier!

I have in mind a good quality budget setup, and Im trying a new sub.

For an amp I am considering a Hifonics 1505D 1500w mono, so that will be 500w RMS @ 4 Ohms (dual 2 Ohms bridged)

and for a sub, im trying out a Acoustic Elegance AV12 12" 500w RMS sub, which is supposed to be really nice for the price.

I think I may get a new head unit as well, but I dont know if I want to get into that.

When I looked my car up on mobiletoys.com, it says there is a Bose amp in it?

Did you hook up through RCA?

Did you do the installation all yourself?

They're incorrect. We dont have a Bose system in the car.

The Legend and the RL do have Bose.. as does the 2nd Generation TL (1999 - 2003)

Our system is simple (in comparison) but still sounds great.

I cant decide if thats good or bad news lol, it means easier installation for my sub, but it also means i have a worse quality system than I thought. Oh well, the stereo in 3rd Gens is actually kick ass with premium sound, just not quite the bass I would like, hence the sub.

on more thing, i suggest a new head unit. as kamlungs setup, you can power all that with your stock unit but you get more *umph* with an aftermarket unit. the sound will be more clean and crisp with speakers and/or tweeters. I am using my stock unit in my cl and all i have in that is the jl 12w6v2. it hits but not as hard as it is capable of hitting.

Ya I was just thinking a good 70w x 4 HU would be nice, and that leaves space for an EQ a little in the future (after a couple more paychecks). Also, it means I dont have to hook up my sub through RCA, so I wont have to deal with messing with the gain etc...

Thanks and here is my prospected setup if anyone cares:

1 Acoustic Elegance AV12 12" (bridged for 1 Ohm)

Hifonics BX605D amp (600w RMS @ 1 Ohm)

Sealed Box

And I have a question about a HU, I want to keep the 6 disc changer in the trunk going, can I get any HU and just wire it in and have that going as it is now? Or, is there anything specific I need to look for in a HU to keep using the changer?

Can anyone please suggest a specific HU they would recommend in the $100 price range that will work with my CD changer in the trunk?

Thanks alot guys this is really helping.

Our system has its merits.. the stock speakers were good for their day and we have a true center channel, the two midrange speakers near the rearview mirror

Alright cool I got it all worked out but the head unit.

Any suggestions on a $100 HU that can still run the 6 disc changer? Does it just need to be any unit that has Changer Control? or is it specific for how many discs your changer is?

Thanks Again

Ok, I read that only same brand HUs with CD changer control will work, so I found this

Look alright to everyone? and it has Sub Out so hooking up my woofer is going to be alot easier and better now that I wont have to use RCA.

Thanks for the help guys your awesome.
