Ahh My tl has problems

I have a 3.2 tl 1997 and my spark plug module beacame detached casuing my car to have problems starting up as well as the engine light coming on. They said this could stop the engine light coming however if this doesnt not do anything I will need a new onboard computer am I getting punked? Or has my car been in a accident before I got it. Or is it just a twist of fate. Also how much does the onboard computer thing usually cost if I do need a new one.

Onboard computers affect your emissions ;) Therefore it is FREE according to federal law.

Okay, this is the deal with our 1st generation TLs and thier extended emissions warranties. When OBD II came out in the early 90s, honda started implementing it in our cars. A couple years later, the EPA discovered that the OBD system wasn't built to spec. A lawsuit was attempted and honda (acura) settled out of court offering a 14 year or 150,000 mile warranty on all emission items. They did this to avoid a recall which would have cost them millions. Every 95-98 Acura TL qualifies.... It also includes a free tune up at 75k... My car had it done at 85k, right before I bought it. I urge all of you to call Acura and give them your VIN number and find out where it stands as per the warranty. Not every car has an emissions waranty like this... and it is not federal law... we are just lucky!!

Yes, that is true.

However, it IS Federal law for cars that have catalytic converters, to have FREE service and FREE parts for ANYTHING that would affect its emissions. :)

Basically anything from exhaust headers, catalytic converters have to be replaced.

Read that and know your rights when it comes to emission-related repairs :)
