Post Aftermarket CD Player vs. Factory Bose System

Hello ppl. I searched the forums but could not really find what I was looking for so I thought I would ask. When I purchased my TL, I stupidly did not check to see if the CD player worked. It plays music from the radio just fine, but when I insert a CD, it reads an error message that says "CDPE01". Upon investigation through forums and the dealer, I learned that this was more than likely the laser lens gone bad and my CD player was useless... After listening to the radio for 3 months, I have decided to purchase and aftermarket CD player.

My question is: Will the player swap easily, (just splice a wire harness in)? Will I notice an increase or decrease in sound quality? (i'm worried that sound quality will drop because I would be changing the setup...Watts...power...etc...) Is it possible for me to still salvage my Bose player? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

we dont have bose...
and it should be a simple swap as long as you get the harness kit (that thing that makes a lil compartment under the bottom of the HU), prolly no decrease in sound quality

Now that I think of it, I don't remember seeing a Bose logo anywhere... The dealer and places like Best Buy have referred to it a Bose before, so I dunno... I know the later model Legends had it, my buddies has a big "Bose" logo on the door speakers. It sounds good though! Bose or otherwise!

Well with that being confirmed, Would aftermarket speakers sound better... See I was under the impression that we had a phenominal sound system in our first gens. I guess since now I know that It's not Bose, and just a couple beefed up paper cone speakers, I wonder if swapping out all the components would result in a better sounding system?

One other thing... If I replace the CD deck w/out replacing the speakers, will the deck overpower the speakers and blow them, or make them sound like ass at high volume... Thinking about just throwing a CD player and 4 speakers on my best buy card to get it all done at once.... suggestions?

And for future reference.. if you don't see the "BOSE" on the headunit or on any speakers, it isn't Bose.

ive been through 2 decks in my tl so i know that playing around with your audio to get what you want is what you want to do.

If you change out your deck with aftermarket ones, your 2 tweeters above your head will not work anymore. the sound loudness is really loud with your stock radio b/c all 8 speakers will be working. Once you change out your deck, be sure to change out your mids (doors that are 5.25" or you can upgrade to a 6.5") and also your back seat (6x9). be sure to change out your tweeters or you can have best buy replace it for you since you have a best buy card...its also a bit tricky to tear up your dash to install the tweeters unless you want to replace the ones above your head which are 2". since you have a best buy card, i would go with their alpine component sets! ive seen them sell it there. get the alpine type s or if they have alpine type x, get that one but whatever is in your budget.

if you want, get alpine head unit to match your component sets if you do get alpine sets. you wont need a big powerful amplifier to power all your speakers so you wont have to worry much about buying a big powerful amp but you will need an amp to get that clear crisp sound. you will thank yourself when you upgrade your speakers....trust me on this one!!

Well, I purchased an Alpine H/U from best buy and threw it in no problem... Sounds much better. Bass is a lot deeper and treble is clearer... except for the slight fact the the front drivers side speaker is blown... u can only hear it when the bass really hits, so im going to replace those speakers soon... thanks guys

The only tihng with the aftermarket HU is you have to live w/ 6 speakers. But aftermarket speakers own the stock ones. I put JBL's in the back, and they sound great.
