ABS light and emissions

I have a couple of questions for you guys.

1. I have an emissions test coming up. My ABS light is on, but my car and braking system work fine. The emissions testing for my state automatically fails a car if there are any lights on. If I were to get someone to take out the bulb, would my car fail emissions? Would anything be detected?

2. Also, can someone explain to me how to get the ABS codes? From what I have read, there are two blue wires under the glove box and I have to short them? How would I go about shorting them? What would I use?

Thanks for your help. I'm pretty ignorant about cars, as this post so painfully illustrates.

ABS have nothing to do with the emissions. You only need to worry about the check engine light.. On the other hand, I have no idea how to get codes for the ABS..

Maryland. If any lights are on, they won't even test your car.

pull the bulb and the fuse. ABS codes don't show up on the OBD reader.

Hi,

To get the ABS code you short the blue connector. easiest way is to use a paper clip. search the forum for ABS there is a good guide somewhere in there.

The codes is in the form of flashing ABS light. it will flash the primary code, then a subcode when you turn the ignition on.

For example my front left wheel sensor has gone bad so it flashes the code 4-2
i.e 4 short flash, followed by pause, then 2 quick flash.

etc

post your code and we can help you

Ok, from what I read this seems to be the problem:

Front left input solenoid has a short to ground or a short to wire.

If I were to go to the shop to get it repaired, what would I tell them?

Hi,

Can you let me know the car's year and model?

I checked 3-3 but there is no such code for 1996 acura TL 3.2
There is only
3-1
3-2
3-4
3-8
3-12

Cheers

I have a 1998 Acura 3.2 TL. Does the 3-3 code exist for that model in your manual? Or does anyone have any info?

Hi,

Yes you were correct

Front left input solenoid has a short to ground or a short to wire.

I dont think this is something very straight forward to fix. You might check your ABS modulator to see if there is a dangling wire or use the multimeter to find the short.

But it seems like one of the Solenoid has gone bad. You will likely have to contact the dealer and get it replaced. check sites like http://www.acuraoemparts.com/ to see if you can get the solenoid alone, or if you need to replace entire modulator (expensive)

Cheers
