1998 tl 2.5 picking it up next friday
Just browsing through the forum, good so far. The DIY has been quite informative.
Picking up a 1998 2.5 TL next Friday. It has 225,000 km on the clocks, always dealer serviced, but needs a bit of work.
Oil leak. Probably the valve cover gasket or distributor gasket.
Potential power steering leak (rack & pump).
Left upper control arm.
Oil sprayed every year at Krown and over all in decent condition for the age of the car. Needs a bit of a clean of course.
Best of all was the price. Free from my Dad who just treated himself to a new ride.
Truthfully he was having a hard time letting his baby go and is happy it came to me to have as a second car. He just couldn't justify the $7100 that Acura wanted to repair the car...lucky me!

You can cut that $7100 in less then half by DIY and other shade tree mechanics out there. You don't have to have the best wear and tear parts. Look online for deals with lifetime warranty parts.

Exactly. I priced out most parts from an Acura shop in Florida and looked at a rebuilt power steering pump and rack. Less than $1500 total for parts and that includes a tune up, fluid changes (all) and few other items that Acura didn't price.
Thankfully I am pretty handy and do most of the work myself - just not the alignment...
Thanks for your input!
I used to work for Acura many years ago...1988/9 - 1982 if I remember correctly...I started there just after they came out...
