Upgrading audio system.

Hi, long story short I want to upgrade the stereo in my 96 RL. I got the Pioneer AVH-P1400DVD installed and next on my list is the speakers. I want to get a component speaker for the front, but I'm not sure which brands I should go with.
MB Quart PVL 216

Polk Audio DB6501
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...io-db6501.html
or Alpine type S

I a fan of the Polk audio, love their home theater speaker. So what do you guys think. Thx.

I run alpine on almost everything I own. If you are using deck power go with the type S. they sound awesome with deck power.

I'm going to power them with a 4 channels amp later down the road, so I think I'm going to pick the Polk audio lol

I've changed my mind lol. I'll go with the Alpine type s because I've found a great deal for them I probably will add 8'' Sound Ordnance B-8P and call it a day. I'm not a audio guy and I don't want to add a lot of bass. I just want a little bump and thump here and there

I went to Best Buy but they did not have type s hook up. I had a chance to listen to the Polk Audio Dxi6500, and I had to say they were not that great probably it just ran off the HU, not amp. So I went home and placed an order the type s component and a 6x9 lol. I also got the NVX sound dampening too. It's going to be a busy in the coming week
Yea, the DIY for the 04 taillight is coming soon.

I just installed the NVX sound dampening to the top part of the trunk. Man, what a job! The clips holding the carpet was a nightmare to remove if you don't have the right tool. The NVX was heavy and I think it helped the bass from my 6x9 speaker a little bit. I don't know about eliminate the road noise just yet. I have to install in the door too.

Sorry for the blurry pic, I didn't realize it until I posted this. But yet you get an idea lol

Finally, I installed the 6x9 in the rear deck. It was a perfect match for the stock speaker holes. I also had a chanced to install the component into the front driver door. It took me 4hrs to get it installed. All the cutting, drilling, and laying down the sound dampening into the door took the most time. The door panel was the hardest part, it was difficult to take its off and a lot of connectors that were at an odd angle to remove them. I broke of the snap that attached to the door latch where you can open from the inside door handle. Luckily, my local honda dealer had in stock so I went to pick it up immediately. Pics are coming tomorrow lol.

It sounds really good, but I have notice that the new speakers need to turn the volume up. For example, I usually listen at level 15 on my stock speaker, with the the type S I need to turn up at level 17~18. If you know what I'm talking about. Overall, I really like it, it's clear and the bass is tight. I need to let it to break in before I turn the volume up to justify it full potential.

I mounted the tweeter in the stock location near the inner door handle. I had to do a lots of cutting with the oem tweeter o-ring and trimming the yellow foam be hide the the door. Overall, I really like the new type s speakers, they sound really clear. The bass seem to lack a little bit, so I have to wait until the break in period over before I can turn up the volume. Notice, this is my first set of component speaker I'll snap a quick pic of the tweeter later tonight. This is my HU, it was an easy installation except the shop charged me $20 to hook up the wire lol.

I havent upgraded my speaker's yet but I have my eye on the Alpine SPR-60C for the fronts and the Alpine SPR-50 for the passanger doors im gonna leave the 6x9's out but im not sure yet. I just purchased a JL Audio W7-8" & JL Audio 250/1v2 for it. Im probably gonna have Cartoys make a custom box for the 8 they quoted me $200 for it. By your other posts it sounds like the door panels were a pain to take off and maybe the speakers too Im getting into DIYing is it something that you would recommend a greenhorn to try?

Oh nice, the type r are nice Anyway, do your rear door speakers still work after HU installed?
Yea, the door panel for the driver is really a pain to remove, too many connectors and it is a b1tch to remove them. If you decide to tackle this yourself, you'll need two people or at least a chair to help holding the panel for you Be careful while remove the door latch because the purple plastic broke easily (I broke mine lol). There is a trick to remove them! For the driver side it took me almost 3hrs to complete including cleaning, sound dampening, cutting the oem speaker brackets, and trimming the tweeter bracket. The passenger side took me an hour Good luck! BTW, the shop wants to charge me 250$ to install just the front component speaker.

Im sure Ill be very happy with the Type R's. Yes the rear door speakers still work it sounds way better now that I have a new HU, cartoys had to go through the Bose amp to make them work. They said I might have to by-pass the amp totality but they didnt have to go that route luckly. Also when CT went through the amp they said that it would almost double the power of the amp originally gave off using the new HU, volume doenst even go pass 14 otherwise it almost sounds like all the speakers are going to blow. I probably wont got that route of DIYing the speakers I myself am better off not touching that kind of thing thanks for the info on your install!
