Steering wheel controls not working
Hoping someone else has had this problem and has some insight.
My volume buttons don't work, cruise buttons still do.
It's an 02 RL. Any ideas?
TIA

mine get weird every so often where it will take an extra tap.
I say take that switch out and make sure the contacts are all clean, and test the resistors for correct resistance.

There is a plug for the headunit that might have gotten loose

Yeah, I get in the RL the other day and the fiance says "oh yeah, my volume buttons on the steering wheel don't work". They haven't worked in about a week.
I'll try to get at it sometime in the next few weeks. Unfortunately time has been very valuable lately.

Before I got in and I noticed the maint required light was on...I'm like why couldn't you tell me when it came on? What if it was CEL or another light....
I make it a point to get in it twice a week and drive it at least once a week.

Wife does the same thing with the TL.
Worn out brake pads, balding tires etc
Fortunately I pay attention.

I recall one of the Acura techs I've spoken with in the past make mention that there is a bulletin out on that same problem.
bearing in eight places.
Remote Audio Controls Do Not Work Properly
(Supersedes 03-022, dated May 20, 2003)
SYMPTOM
When you turn the steering wheel, the remote audio
switches do not work properly.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The steering shaft resistance varies because the
ground path does not have full contact through the
bearing.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Dimple the copper shield on the steering column ball

I hope it's not that..if it is, it'll stay the way it is.
I'm hoping to get some time on Sunday to take the stereo out and check the connection.
I just got all my parts for my TL today so I'll be spending tomorrow putting in a new mirror glass, new intake hose and a new passenger A-spec side skirt. It'll be mint when I'm done

My switch was not working for a while and i swapped it out for a new one but now once in a while the volume buttons will become reversed and will even switch radio stations or cd tracks when i am pressing the volume up button lol

I didn't get to it this weekend but I am able to change the radio station from the wheel control, just not the volume.
I'm assuming it's the entire switch, not just a loose connection

Seriously? tapping it on and off?
I can't wait to try this when I get home tonight. IF that's the fix, I'll be
Every time I drive the RL, I try to use those damn buttons and it's a disappointment every time when it fails to work.
Oh, here's the fix:

Oh, here's the fix:
raise and lower the volume knob on the headunit a few times... then tap the volume knob on the headunit hard enough to turn it off and then tap it again to turn it back on...

this site won't let you link to certain other (Acura) sites. You have to spell it out or something dumb like that.
you know there's this spray at radio shack for volume knobs, I wonder if it would make any difference.
I still think it's the switch though. I swapped out a different radio and it still does it once in a while.

IT WORKED!
I can't believe it.
This is about as cool as when I fixed my ignition in my TL by spraying a little WD-40 in it
Thanks AZ once again - love this site.

Mine does this same thing, it does get quite annoying, but it does seem to mainly do this when the car is first turned on...I am going to try the odd fix that was mentioned in this thread, but I also wanted to know how easy it is to replace the cluster all together?
My cluster with the navigation cluster has a lot of scratches on it and I was looking to replace it entirely.
Thanks!
