Steering column

I am having truoble with my adjustable (power) steering column. It will move but only a very small amount and then stops. The up/down is only about 1/2 inch and the same for the in/out. I think there use to be more adjustment. Anybody got a clue?

Thanks,
Runner

I had this same issue when I bought my car; I had test driven an RL and it seemed like the column moved alot more, and the RL I ended up buying would only move a few inches. I drove it like this for about six months.

This past winter, I changed out my battery, and lo and behold the column starting working. So try that out and see if by chance it works for you as well.

Edit: I'm not suggesting changing your battery; but disconnect it for 15 minutes and see if that corrects your problem.

I will give it a try. Funny that you mentioned this. Shortly after we got the car my daughter and I were sitting in it one evening checking out the interior. Woke up the next morning to a dead battery. We left the interior lights on by accident. That is probably when I first noticed this problem with the tilt colmn. I will let you know the outcome.

BINGO!!! I disconnected the battery for about 1-2 minutes and reconnected it. The power colmn works perfectly now. Thank you so much for the help. I will leave this thread in case others run into the same problem. I would think that it could be pretty common.

be sure to have your radio code (6 digit number) so you can re-enter it.

thanks again,

Radio code is usually found under the fuse box cover in the engine compartment for those of us who bought used RL's without a radio code in the owners manual.
Don't spend $100
