Wonder if anyone has had this condition and can offer some idea of what may be wrong and what is the remedy ; occasionally when I try starting my 1998 RL (usually after sitting overnight) I get a starter delay (approx half a second) and is quite noticable. A few times I've even had it where I turn the key and nothing happens at all. Then I remove the key and try it again and it'll start right up. Feels almost like a relay delay. This has been happening for about 2 months now - and luckilly I've not been stranded yet. 92 k on the car and still running great otherwise. Any ideas guys ?

 

That does sound like a relay delay. Also keep in mind that the RL has a long piston stroke, so it takes more effort to start.

 

I had a similar experience with my 97 RL. It seemed like it was a problem with the immobilizer system in the keys/ignition.

Sometimes I have to take the key out and reinsert and then all is fine.

Does the green key icon in the instrument panel light up?
