Rl steering wheel swap

So I’ve been wondering if it’s possible to swap over a newer RL steering wheel to my 02 I remember reading someone putting an 04 in theirs (for the chrome emblem vs emboss) but what about something a tad newer like an 06? Would I be able to use the newer 06 clockspring as well could fix a problem while adding an updated wheel.

I'm not sure if the connectors for the airbag and steering wheel controls are compatible?

you could theoretically de-pin and splice the connectors to work. That being said, if the control units for those things are looking for a certain range of values and the new parts do not fall within that range, then they will likely not work or you may end up eating airbag.

A overlooked but better option might be to see if you can’t retrofit all the electronics and a new airbag (there’s a recall, Takata airbags), in the newer steering wheel. Most mechanical buttons should just be a question of recasing them so they fit and work properly, the airbag and ensuring that works will be the challenge.

Not undoable, but I’d take my time to retrofit old into new rather than new into old, especially if it is related to any safety equipment.
