Regular Unleaded Gas or Premium? 98 RL

My Dad just gave me a 98 Acura RL and it says on the gas cap that I should use premium unleaded but my Dad say s he has always used regular 87 octane gas & has not had a problem. The vehicle has 102,000 miles and he purchased it used.

What do you fellow Acura owners think. What is your experience?

Any helpful comment are much appreciated

Premium here too.

If I'm feeling cheap I put midgrade, but never regular.

Premium.

You CAN run regular but will have reduced gas mileage and performance.

It's only about a 20 cent difference between regular and premium gas. Just continue with the premium.

I use premium gas, but obviously it is only "recommended" and not "required." Therefore, if you want to use regular gas, it will not harm the car in any way. The premium fuel supposedly gives a slight boost to performance, such as acceleration. However, that performance for most people is probably not noticeable. Some people like to alternate fill ups, for example doing one or two premium tanks and then one regular tank. This, as far as I can tell, is entirely just voodoo and you might as well pick one or the other. The reason I use premium is because this is the most expensive car I've owned and I plan on keeping it for a long time. Therefore, I'm just doing everything that is recommended. If you are the type of person who gets new cars after a few years, then it really won't matter at all. Probably even if you wanted to own your car for a long time, it wouldn't matter at all, either. I just personally wanted to do it. So the answer is that either premium or regular gas is fine for the RDX.
